Nintendo has finally announced the Switch 2 on Thursday after months of rumors and leaks. Read our article to learn more.]]>

Nintendo has finally announced the Switch 2 on Thursday after months of rumors and leaks. There isn’t much information about the new hybrid console yet, but there’s still enough to discuss, especially in connection to Rockstar Games.

The Switch 2, following one of the best-selling consoles ever, is highly anticipated. It might even be one of the most awaited console launches, though not quite as much as GTA 6. With the upgraded hardware expected in the new console and Rockstar’s past support for the original Switch, there’s a good chance we’ll see more Rockstar Games titles on this new system.

 • Classics Play On Nintendo Switch 2
 • Will GTA 6 Be Launched On Nintendo Switch 2?
 • How about Red Dead Redemption 2 & GTA V Portable?

Classics Play On Nintendo Switch 2

To start, Nintendo confirmed that the Switch 2 will support backwards compatibility with both physical and digital Switch games. However, they did mention that “certain” Switch 1 games might not work or be fully compatible with the new console. If Rockstar’s games work without issues, fans will be able to play Red Dead Redemption, L.A. Noire, and Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition on the Switch 2 from day one.

Nintendo confirmed that the Switch 2 will support backwards compatibility with both physical and digital Switch games.

It’s unclear if playing Switch games on the Switch 2 will automatically improve graphics or performance without updates from developers. If there are improvements, fans might enjoy a stable 30FPS in games like the GTA Trilogy, which occasionally has frame drops. Since the collection received a major update, it already runs much better on the current Switch.

GTA+ support has also been worked on for the Nintendo Switch. This means GTA+ members on current-generation consoles could play games like L.A. Noire, The GTA Trilogy, and Red Dead Redemption on the Switch.

Will GTA 6 Be Launched On Nintendo Switch 2?

Gta 6 Release

When it comes to new releases on the Switch, GTA 6 is almost certainly not an option. The Switch 2 is rumored to have power similar to the PS4, or maybe the PS4 Pro, which isn’t enough to handle Rockstar’s ambitious vision for the game. GTA 6 will first launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and later on PC. A Switch 2 version might only happen if the game is heavily scaled down, but that seems very unlikely.

How about Red Dead Redemption 2 & GTA V Portable?

A more likely Rockstar release for the Switch 2 is Red Dead Redemption 2. Some rumors suggest the game could be available when the console launches. Interestingly, one leaker who mentioned this also predicted the Switch 2 reveal date as January 17th—just a day off from the actual announcement.

It’s not impossible, though. Rockstar insider Tez2 revealed that Rockstar had plans to port Red Dead Redemption 2 to the Switch back in 2019. In fact, the Switch controller is even referenced in the PC version's files. Additionally, in September 2023, Red Dead Redemption 2 was age-rated for the Nintendo Switch in Brazil. Given that the Switch 2’s rumored power is comparable to a PS4, RDR2 seems like a strong candidate for the new console.

Red Dead Redemption 2
A more likely Rockstar release for the Switch 2 is Red Dead Redemption 2.

Nintendo has scheduled a Switch 2 Direct livestream for April 2nd, where they’ll reveal more about the console and announce new games. While the event will likely focus on Nintendo’s own first-party titles, big third-party games like Red Dead Redemption 2 could make an appearance. The gap between the console’s reveal and the Direct might be to give publishers time to announce their Switch 2 games. Interestingly, Take-Two’s financial report for the last quarter is coming early next month. Announcing Red Dead Redemption 2 for the Switch 2 could be a move to please investors.

GTA V, being less demanding than Red Dead 2, is a more likely candidate for the Switch 2. There’s been ongoing speculation about Rockstar potentially bringing GTA V to even the original Switch. In fact, someone tried to port it, but the results were low frame rates, as expected. Given the Switch 2’s more powerful hardware, it’s easier to imagine GTA V running smoothly on the new console.

It seems less likely for several reasons. With GTA 6 almost finished, Rockstar probably won’t want to expand GTA Online to another platform and continue its support. There’s a good chance GTA Online will no longer receive updates after GTA 6is released in 2025. However, Rockstar might release a version of GTA V without the GTA Online part, similar to how they removed Red Dead 1's online mode from PS4, Switch, and PC.

Additionally, GTA V is already the second best-selling game of all time, so there likely won’t be many Switch 2 users who haven’t played it yet. The new console doesn’t have the same 100+ million user base that the original Switch does, which means it may not make as much sense to bring the game to the Switch 2.

These are the best games released in 2023 on the Switch - players should definitely try them out next year.]]>

Initially launched in 2017, the Nintendo Switch has surpassed six years in existence, revealing signs of its age. Despite the rejuvenation brought by the OLED model, the Switch undeniably reflects an outdated gaming system, potentially edging toward obsolescence amid swirling rumors of a successor. However, this doesn't mark the end for the Switch just yet. On the contrary, 2023 emerges as a standout year in its enduring legacy.

This year stands as a testament to the Switch's excellence, offering a near-perfect culmination for this cherished handheld hybrid. It appears that Nintendo has pooled its resources to give the Switch a grand farewell. Titles like Zelda, Mario, Metroid, and Pikmin have all delivered exceptional editions, not to mention the array of impressive third-party games finding a home on the Switch this year.

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

An unmistakable title that requires no formal introduction, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has garnered widespread acclaim as one of the standout games of 2023, a reputation that appears to be firmly established. Building upon the foundation laid by its already exceptional predecessor, Tears of the Kingdom not only enhances but also introduces new elements, pushing the boundaries of the open-world genre once more, particularly with its innovative Zonai abilities.

The game distinguishes itself by allowing players to freely ascend through platforms, fuse weapons, and construct any imaginable contraption or vehicle, making The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom truly unparalleled in the gaming landscape.

Super Mario RPG

The reimagined Super Mario RPG stands as a rarity in Nintendo's repertoire of full remakes, often proving to be exceptionally well-executed. This revamped edition of the underrated 1996 SNES classic captivates with its stunning visuals and delightful gameplay.

While the turn-based mechanics might not resonate with all players, the game's charmingly quirky atmosphere is a compelling draw for any Super Mario enthusiast. This remake adeptly ensures accessibility and immersion, successfully retaining the essence of the original while making it appealing to a broader audience.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder

Super Mario Bros. Wonder marked the iconic franchise's return to its 2D roots after over a decade, satisfying fans' longing for a triumphant comeback. While its gameplay retains the familiar Mario essence, the central Wonder Flower mechanic introduces a refreshing twist, offering a wholly innovative encounter.

Additionally, the incorporation of four-player co-op elevates Wonder into a significant progression for the series. Undoubtedly, Super Mario Bros. Wonder now stands proudly among the best titles on the Nintendo Switch, alongside the likes of Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.

Sea of Stars

Sea of Stars, honored with The Game Awards 2023's Best Indie Game accolade, seems perfectly suited for the Nintendo Switch. Existing within the universe of The Messenger, a notable Switch title from 2018, this game is a nostalgic RPG, drawing heavy inspiration from classic retro games such as Chrono Trigger. Boasting impressive turn-based combat, captivating pixel art visuals, and compelling character narratives, Sea of Stars undoubtedly stands out as one of the premier games of 2024.

Pikmin 4

Pikmin 4, a project nearly spanning a decade, is a tangible reality eagerly anticipated for the Nintendo Switch. While maintaining the fundamental gameplay loop of its predecessors, Pikmin 4 distinguishes itself as the most accessible installment in the franchise, offering ease in controls and a friendlier difficulty level.

Notably, it introduces enjoyable enhancements such as new Pikmin variations, the addition of Night Expeditions missions, and a groundbreaking feature allowing player character customization—a first in the series. With its inviting, serene, and captivating gameplay, Pikmin 4 emerges as an exemplary Nintendo Switch game, proving the vitality of this enduring franchise.

Octopath Traveler 2

Debuting in February 2023, Octopath Traveler 2 has emerged as a sleeper hit among Indie games this year, maintaining a strong presence on the Nintendo Switch. Following in the footsteps of its precursor, the game continues the tradition of presenting eight distinct playable characters, each possessing a unique skill set, individual motivations, and a personal narrative. Once more, the captivating essence lies in discovering the intricate connections between these diverse journeys.

Metroid Prime Remastered

Following years of speculation and unauthorized disclosures, the unveiling and release of Metroid Prime Remastered on the Nintendo Switch earlier this year were met with great anticipation, and remarkably, the game delivered on its promises.

Metroid Prime Remastered

Beyond a mere remaster, Metroid Prime underwent substantial graphical and technical enhancements from its 2002 predecessor, seamlessly aligning it with modern gaming standards of the 2020s. However, the sole drawback of Metroid Prime Remastered lies in the absence of immediate access to its two sequels for fans, although it seems plausible that Nintendo might be developing them behind the scenes.

Dave the Diver

Despite its recent arrival on the Nintendo Switch in late October, Dave the Diver swiftly emerged as one of the console's standout titles. The game's central gameplay involves diving into a dynamically shifting ocean during the day, capturing fish and various sea creatures, and subsequently transitioning to managing a sushi restaurant on land at night.

Dave the Diver is adeptly tailored for brief hour-long gaming sessions, perfectly aligning with the gaming experience offered by Nintendo's handheld hybrid console.

Dredge

Another addition to the roster of maritime-themed Switch games, Dredge not only secures a position among the top Switch games of the year but stands out as one of the premier Indie games in 2023 overall. In Dredge, players delve into an expansive ocean, engaging in fishing expeditions and returning to the mainland to sell their catches.

The earned proceeds facilitate upgrades for their boats, enabling deeper exploration at sea. However, the game takes an eerie turn the farther players venture from the safety of the shore, merging the tranquil pastime of fishing with unsettling Lovecraftian elements. This intriguing fusion of serene fishing and ominous themes makes Dredge an indisputable standout among the year's top games on the Switch.

Disney Illusion Island

Exclusive to the Nintendo Switch at present, Disney Illusion Island stands out as one of the premier family games of the year, serving as an ideal gateway to the Metroidvania genre for younger players.

In this game, up to four players embody Mickey Mouse and the animated crew, navigating through levels by running, swinging, climbing, and exploring diverse environments, each mirroring the vibrant and colorful essence of the cartoons it portrays. Offering genuine enjoyment for all ages, Disney Illusion Island seamlessly fits within the Nintendo Switch gaming experience.

If you are a fan of the latest Action RPG Zelda sequel, it might be a good idea to check out these 10 Switch titles.]]>

The anticipated Tears of the Kingdom has been released to much acclaim and lived up to its expectations, which is no easy feat given the soaring heights of its predecesor. The game's darker and deeper premise, added tools and powers to toy with, and new multi-dimensional areas to explore have made this a compelling sequel.

Even though this new game is huge and takes a lot of time to play, people will still want more games like it on the Switch, especially because the main Zelda games make them want similar ones.

This list will show some of the best Switch games that are a lot like Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and will make gamers happy.

1. Bastion

Bastion, a game that inspired many indie titles, draws from the classic 2D Zelda gameplay and captures its essence remarkably well. It stands out for its enjoyable combat, exploration, and distinctive, lively art style.

Arriving on the Switch almost a decade later, Bastion appears better than before and stands as one of the top action RPGs on the platform, offering a fantastic experience at an affordable price. It's an excellent option for Zelda fans seeking a charming adventure, often underrated among other Switch games similar to Zelda.

2. Xenoblade Chronicles 2

Building upon the rich lore and enjoyable gameplay of the popular Wii RPG, Monolith Soft delivers another triumph with this expansive and captivating Xenoblade sequel for the Switch. Similar to its predecessor, released in 2017, this game prioritizes a compelling narrative, endearing characters, and visually stunning settings.

Moreover, it features an abundance of engaging combat that stands out in its own right. Departing from the iconic Monado sword, the game shines with its distinct system reminiscent of Pokemon, known as Blades, each offering unique abilities and dynamics. The parallels with Zelda are evident in the vast, explorable landscapes and fantastical themes. Equally notable are the exhilarating battles that merge arcade-style action with diverse skills and subtlety.

3. Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age

Out of Square Enix's extensive and renowned RPG collection, it might seem unconventional to highlight the less recognized member, often considered the outlier, within the Final Fantasy series as a viable alternative to Breath of the Wild. Nevertheless, Final Fantasy 12 aligns closely with similar gameplay principles, encompassing more action-oriented combat and fantasy landscapes within semi-open worlds.

Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age

Considered an underappreciated installment sandwiched between the popular FF10 and the highly anticipated 13, FF 12, especially in its remastered Switch version, represents the pinnacle of the game. Its aesthetics and gameplay feel exceptional, while the distinctive Gambit system, coupled with various gameplay enhancements, delivers an enjoyable and intuitive combat experience. It's a captivating adventure that Zelda enthusiasts shouldn't miss.

4. Okami HD

Originally a surprise success from the now-closed Clover Studio, Okami remains a stunning blend of artistry and gameplay that has aged exceptionally well. This captivating journey bears some resemblance to Twilight Princess, notably when Link transforms into a wolf.

The majestic watercolor visuals and captivating Asian folklore in Okami blur the line between an interactive masterpiece and an action-adventure game. It boasts inventive puzzles, distinct dungeons, and enjoyable combat that fans of Breath of the Wild should find familiar and enjoyable.

5. Minecraft: Switch Edition

While the PC version of this expansive indie sandbox adventure remains unmatched, the Switch edition emerges as a top choice for handheld play, benefiting from Nintendo's touch, pre-designed maps, and expansive worlds.

Minecraft Inscaffolding
Minecraft: Switch Edition

Despite the liberating sense of Hyrule's open world in Breath of the Wild, Minecraft stands as a rare example that surpasses it in terms of sheer scale and magnificence. Players have almost limitless possibilities, from battling adversaries in survival mode to constructing intricate structures and delving into mines and dungeons. Minecraft embodies an entirely open, blocky rendition of a journey reminiscent of Zelda's style.

6. Tunic

Crafted by designer Andrew Shouldice, this sleeper hit seamlessly combines the Zelda-style gameplay reminiscent of Link's Awakening with Metroidvania exploration, featuring a stylish artistic approach and an isometric perspective reminiscent of 90s PC games. Additionally, there's a touch of Dark Souls influence to add an extra layer of challenge. The soft and charming visuals serve as a façade for intense combat and mind-bending puzzles.

While the game's progression may seem straightforward, Tunic surprises with its unexpected depth and gripping gameplay. Players are compelled to employ their intelligence as they navigate through 12 hours of vibrant worlds, tackle enigmatic puzzles, and confront formidable bosses.

7. The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim

Considered the pinnacle of expansive Western RPGs, Skyrim is abundantly packed with content, featuring immersive worlds, countless dungeons, formidable enemies, and gratifying magic. Similar to Zelda, this intricate RPG adopts the fantasy essence of Dungeons & Dragons and amplifies it through extensive open worlds that entice players to delve deeper.

Skyrim Jumbo
The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim

With Skyrim's evident impact on the sandbox style and unrestricted gameplay seen in Breath of the Wild, it's an obvious choice for fans seeking an immersive experience. Appropriately, players can even equip Link's iconic attire and wield the Master Sword in the Switch version, adding a familiar touch to the adventure.

8. Collection Of Mana

Since its inception during the early Game Boy era, SquareEnix's spinoff of Final Fantasy for handheld consoles has evolved into a commendable action RPG series. This trilogy of RPGs forms an outstanding compilation of three adventure games reminiscent of Zelda, offering extensive customization, engaging narratives, enjoyable magic systems, and breathtaking settings.

Specifically, Secret of Mana and its previously unreleased sequel feel like lost 16-bit Zelda games. For fans seeking a 16-bit Zelda experience on the Switch, it would be challenging to find a game more akin to it than this remarkable gem.

9. Hades

Combine an indie hack-and-slash frenzy with challenging roguelike elements, sprinkle in captivating Greek mythology, and you'll get Hades, released in 2020. It captures that retro Zelda essence through its relentless stream of formidable enemies and dungeon exploration.

Supergiant Games lures players in with a plethora of infernal, randomly generated dungeons teeming with unique adversaries and gratifying weapons. Similar to many roguelikes, the protagonist, Zagreus, faces daunting odds as he navigates through the expansive underworld. Despite the likelihood of repeated defeat, there's an irresistible allure to this addictive, adrenaline-pumping gameplay that keeps drawing players back for more punishment.

10. Hyper Light Drifter

An indie game of this scale rarely emerges with such widespread critical acclaim, yet Hyper Light Drifter surpasses its fame. Crafted by a small team of developers, it reshapes classic Zelda conventions into a distinctive and captivating creation.

The challenging mechanics of Dark Souls spawned a new genre of games known as Soulslikes. Here are some of the best soulslikes to try out on the Switch.]]>

From time to time, a game emerges with such unique and captivating gameplay that it sparks a whole new category in gaming, inspiring numerous titles that strive to recreate that distinctive experience with their own twists. The release of Dark Souls in 2011 gave birth to the Soulslike subgenre, characterized by its unforgiving challenges, combat reliant on managing stamina, and explorative elements reminiscent of Metroidvania games.

Even though the full Dark Souls trilogy and its expansive successor, Elden Ring, aren't available on the Nintendo Switch, players on this platform still have access to a diverse collection of demanding, immersive games heavily influenced by FromSoftware's Souls formula. It's surprising to see such hardcore experiences on a Nintendo console, considering their reputation for prioritizing creativity and accessibility above all else.

1. Hollow Knight

With its four expansions included, Hollow Knight offers over 100 hours of gameplay—an impressive achievement given its cartoonish visuals and 2D platformer style. Surprisingly, the game boasts intricate lore and, most notably, impeccably smooth gameplay that's both challenging and captivating.

Hollow Knight Silksong Gameplay
Hollow Knight

Hollow Knight blurs the lines between being a Soulslike and a Metroidvania. It presents numerous routes to traverse, supplementary areas to investigate, a diverse array of adversaries to combat, and an elaborate charm system that grants unique abilities, offering players multiple strategies to confront enemies.

2. Dead Cells

Ultimately, Dead Cells stands as an outstanding game deserving of the attention it received, showcasing how the combination of Soulslike gameplay and roguelike progression creates something exceptional.

Dead Cells 1
Dead Cells

In Dead Cells, each playthrough serves as an educational journey where players gradually comprehend the game's mechanics and the most effective approaches to combat the numerous adversaries encountered. Through consistent repetition, most individuals grasp the game's workings and eventually overcome its challenging bosses—with considerable effort, of course.

3. Dark Souls Remastered

Any compilation of top Soulslike games would be incomplete without acknowledging the one that initiated this entire trend: Dark Souls. The remastered edition of FromSoftware's iconic game, which continues to inspire numerous game studios worldwide, arrived on the Switch in 2018, delivering an equally enjoyable experience whether played in handheld mode or on a larger screen.

Dark Souls Remastered

Given that it's a port of a 2011 release, Dark Souls Remastered performs admirably on the Nintendo Switch, displaying consistent performance without notable issues throughout the entire gameplay. While it received some necessary graphical enhancements, these improvements are predominantly noticeable when the Switch is in its docked mode. Beyond that, it maintains the classic Souls experience, although its success amplifies the disappointment surrounding the absence of the remaining two Dark Souls titles on the Switch.

4. Death's Door

Death's Door adopts an isometric viewpoint. Players assume the role of a crow, functioning as one among many reapers in a world where the task of ferrying souls to "the other side" has become highly bureaucratic.

The gameplay involves swift, stamina-driven combat with straightforward yet gratifying attacks. It's reasonably challenging (though not as intense as Dark Souls), and it incorporates numerous puzzles and exploration elements reminiscent of the Zelda series. Ultimately, Death's Door is a brief and enjoyable game that runs seamlessly on the Switch.

5. Salt and Sanctuary

This indie title, boasting a captivating art style reminiscent of platformers like Limbo and Inside, adeptly reimagines the essence of Dark Souls within a 2D framework. Its grim, post-apocalyptic setting evokes a reminiscent atmosphere of Drangleic, while Salt and Sanctuary's smooth, stamina-focused combat presents an equally demanding and relentless challenge.

Salt and Sanctuary

Despite its seemingly simplistic visuals and easy-to-understand mechanics, Salt and Sanctuary proves to be a rather intricate game. It encompasses extensive RPG elements, approximately 600 usable items, and a variety of distinct weapon types, each equipped with unique move sets. These elements collectively allow players to tailor their gameplay to match their individual preferences.

6. Blasphemous 2

The initial Blasphemous stood out as a strong Metroidvania, blending gothic horror elements that contributed to its overall excellence. Enthusiasts of intricate pixel artistry will certainly appreciate the offering of this title, which explains the justified anticipation for its sequel, following its success as an indie gem.

The sequel improves significantly on the Metroidvania aspects compared to its predecessor. Its exceptional exploration aspect combined with challenging yet fulfilling combat renders Blasphemous 2 a commendable follow-up that fans should personally experience.

7. Ashen

With its sleek yet straightforward visuals and commendable voice performances, Ashen stands out as one of the premier Soulslike experiences accessible on the Nintendo Switch. While its combat mechanics and progression closely resemble those of Dark Souls, Ashen possesses unique elements that establish its individuality.

Ashen

One of the standout features of Ashen is its innovative co-op system, enabling chance encounters between players within the game to collaborate on quests. Additionally, the game incorporates a hub area that players can transform from a dilapidated settlement into a thriving village throughout their journey.

8. Remnant: From the Ashes

Merging the Soulslike genre with elements of a third-person shooter seemed like a daring move, but fans were pleased to find that Remnant: From the Ashes handled this fusion with remarkable finesse. The game's seamless execution delighted players, especially with its cooperative play option, enabling friends to confront the challenges of this demanding yet captivating title together.

Additionally, Remnant: From the Ashes enhances replayability by structuring areas and boss encounters differently in each playthrough. This decision adds a layer of freshness, requiring players to adapt their strategies for boss battles based on the varied strengths and configurations encountered in every new encounter.

9. Blasphemous

Players seeking an atmospheric gaming adventure intertwined with platforming will find Blasphemous to be a captivating choice. The game boasts a remarkable and memorable art style that lingers in players' minds long after they've completed their journey. With nightmarish bosses and occasionally frustrating platforming sections, Blasphemous maintains a compelling grip from beginning to end.

The anticipation for a sequel is easily understandable given the game's immersive qualities. While the game poses considerable challenges, those who grasp its combat mechanics and comprehend enemy behaviors will find immense satisfaction in the experience it offers. Admittedly, navigating spike traps remains a persistent annoyance, but it's a minor inconvenience in an otherwise exceptional game.

10. Eldest Souls

The game's title, which directly includes the word "souls," serves as an overt nod to the titles that inspired it. Eldest Souls openly pays homage to the Dark Souls trilogy, yet it takes considerable strides to distinguish itself within the Soulslike genre, carving out its distinct identity.

Presented from an isometric viewpoint, Eldest Souls retains the gruelingly challenging combat reminiscent of Dark Souls, but its artistic style and tempo diverge significantly. Contrary to the norm, the game lacks traditional mobs, instead guiding players through a series of breathtaking pixel art landscapes by moving from one demanding boss battle to the next.

If you're looking for a great JRPG to play, Metacritic scores suggest these are the best available on the Switch!]]>

The JRPG genre, which dates back to the early era of gaming consoles, has stood the test of time. Among the enduring franchises in this category are Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, and Megami Tensei, which continue to enjoy popularity. These games feature expansive character parties, captivating narratives, and refined gameplay, often based on turn-based mechanics.

Nonetheless, due to the contemporary hectic schedules, finding leisure time for indulging in a traditional JRPG on a large screen can be challenging. Thankfully, the Nintendo Switch hosts a collection of exceptional Japanese role-playing games. For those seeking the finest JRPGs on the Nintendo Switch, consulting Metacritic can be a valuable aid when making the next game selection.

Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age

Introduction isn't necessary for Final Fantasy 12. The tale of Sky Pirate Balthier and Princess Ashe is one that is likely to remain memorable for numerous fans. The game does have its shortcomings, mainly centered around the somewhat unimpressive main character Vaan. However, apart from that aspect, it stands as a timeless masterpiece.

The Zodiac Age brings about significant alterations to the game. Although the original's License Board had its flaws, the new job system introduced in the re-release effectively addresses those issues and offers a wide array of options for character development. While it still requires a certain amount of grinding and maintains a slightly sluggish pace, the enchanting world of Ivalice offers a truly delightful expanse to explore.

Octopath Traveler 2

Octopath Traveler 2 from Square Enix and Acquire chooses to build upon the solid foundation of its predecessor, opting for a familiar experience while making certain adjustments to address the critiques aimed at the original game. Similarly to its forerunner, the game revolves around eight protagonists embarking on individual storylines, resulting in the presentation of eight distinct mini-narratives rather than a single extensive journey.

Octopath Traveler 10
Octopath Traveler

In contrast to the 2018 release, Octopath Traveler 2 introduces interactions between the characters. Although their impact on each other's stories remains limited, they now appear more akin to a conventional adventuring party rather than mere strangers who coincidentally fight alongside one another.

Shin Megami Tensei 5

After a span of approximately five years, Shin Megami Tensei 5 was eventually released in 2021, and Atlus' Japanese role-playing game proved to be well worth the lengthy anticipation. True to the norm in these games, players find themselves navigating through Tokyo and the Netherworld, engaging in battles against a variety of demons while occasionally attempting to negotiate with them.

Shin Megami Tensei V 01
Shin Megami Tensei 5

Similarly to the franchise's tradition, Shin Megami Tensei 5 isn't an easy game by any means, although it does show a slightly more accommodating stance towards newcomers to the genre compared to some previous installments in the series. On the visual front, SMT 5 stands out as one of the more visually appealing JRPGs available on the Switch, particularly in terms of character and demon designs. It also excels across nearly all other aspects.

Persona 5 Royal

The highly acclaimed JRPG originally for the PS4 is now accessible on most contemporary platforms, and unsurprisingly, Persona 5 Royal undeniably stands out as one of the premier games across all these systems. The Phantom Thieves have achieved an iconic status at this juncture, and their extensive narrative is replete with heartrending moments, intrigue, and instances of resounding triumph.

Persona 5 The Royal 2
Persona 5 Royal

P5R's gameplay structure revolves around two key components: social simulation and delving into dungeons with turn-based combat. The latter is reasonably straightforward, particularly in terms of the combat system. Nevertheless, it gains an elevated status due to its stylish presentation and an enticing creature-collecting mechanism that encourages a continual rotation of Personas, as opposed to adhering rigidly to a fixed party.

The dungeons are thoughtfully crafted and captivating, yet one could argue that the social simulation aspect of P5R takes the spotlight. Players step into the shoes of Joker, experiencing both the most thrilling and mundane moments of the character's life. They engage in interactions with peers, dine at eateries, attend school, and perhaps even embark on a date or two.

Dragon Quest 11 S: Echoes of An Elusive Age

Dragon Quest, previously recognized as "Dragon Warrior" in the Western regions, requires no formal introduction. Being the original JRPG franchise, the entire realm of gaming owes a substantial debt to the Dragon Quest series. Beyond its historical significance, DQ11 stands as one of the most exceptional RPGs of the preceding decade.

Dragon Quest 11 S Echoes Of An Elusive Age Definit
Dragon Quest 11

Every element that defines the excellence of JRPGs is encompassed within DQ11. The game boasts a lively ensemble of characters, each grappling with their individual challenges. The narrative takes unforeseen twists and turns that defy player anticipations. This time around, the music even transcends MIDI quality, which is a welcome improvement. Alongside all these attributes, the gameplay attains a level of perfection achievable in turn-based RPGs. Given the abundant demo accessible on the Switch, it's a worthwhile endeavor for any RPG aficionado or gaming enthusiast in general.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 presents itself as an immense and indulgent gaming experience. As observed in the prior Xenoblade entries, XC2 is replete with side missions and creatures to track down. The diverse continents offer an abundance of locations to explore and enigmas to unveil, catering to both quest fulfillment and entertainment. Although the gameplay diverges to a degree from the previous titles, it remains enjoyable.

What truly distinguishes XC2 from its predecessors is the sheer profusion of characters present within the game. Beyond the primary cast, all the Rare Blades possess distinctive personalities and their own sets of quests to accomplish. The character design might not resonate with everyone (a common challenge in the genre), and even those accustomed to gacha-style games could find themselves taken aback by certain designs. Despite this, the game delivers an exhilarating gaming experience and is an unadulterated source of enjoyment.

Persona 4 Golden

Once again, a new installment in the Persona series brings forth another JRPG gem. Persona 4 Golden has gracefully matured, both in its visual presentation and its narrative depth. The game's dynamic array of colors bestows its visuals with an ageless allure, especially in settings outside The TV World, the central dungeon of the storyline. In terms of the narrative, this JRPG follows the series' characteristic gradual buildup, but its endearing characters sustain engagement until the plot gradually gains traction.

The Pokémon franchise has had a significant impact on the entertainment industry, the video game industry, and popular culture.]]>

The Pokémon franchise has been around for over 25 years and has become a cultural phenomenon with a massive following worldwide. The franchise spans across multiple media including video games, anime, manga, trading cards, and more, making it accessible to a wide range of audiences.

In terms of the video game industry, the franchise has been highly successful, selling over 350 million copies worldwide across various platforms. It has also been influential in shaping the RPG genre, with its monster-collecting and battling gameplay mechanics inspiring numerous other games.

Over the years, the franchise has released a plethora of games, ranging from the main series to spin-offs, each offering a unique take on the popular Pocket Monsters. However, which games in the franchise can truly be considered the best?

1. Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver

Put simply, Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver are considered the pinnacle of the franchise. The original Pokémon Gold and Silver were already outstanding sequels as they expanded the Pokédex and introduced new types, while also including the Kanto region as a bonus. Later, Crystal improved upon those games by allowing players to choose their gender, featuring animated Pokémon sprites, and a stronger focus on Suicune.

Pokemon Heartgold Soulsilver Original
HeartGold and SoulSilver

Despite this, Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver managed to surpass their predecessors in nearly every aspect. They updated the graphics, incorporated features from later games, and provided an unparalleled gaming experience. Nothing in the franchise can compare to the excitement, challenge, and satisfaction of battling Red and striving to be the very best.

2. Pokémon Black 2 and White 2

The fifth generation of Pokémon games was a game-changer for the franchise, and the direct sequels, Pokémon Black 2 and White 2, embody everything that made it so groundbreaking. The original Black and White games laid the groundwork by introducing the Unova region, a new cast of Pokémon, a compelling story with a memorable rival (N), and incredible music. The sequels built upon these elements and took them to new heights.

Black 2 and White 2

The games feature a vast Pokédex with innovative designs and unique types, incorporating familiar Pokémon early on to make team building more exciting. The story continues from the first games, delivering a satisfying conclusion to the narrative. Visually, Black 2 and White 2 make full use of the Nintendo DS hardware, providing breathtaking 3D landscapes, bustling cities, cinematic bridge crossings, and intricate details throughout. The post-game content is exceptional, offering the opportunity to capture numerous legendary Pokémon, hone battle skills at the Black Tower or White Treehollow, and participate in the Battle Subway or Pokémon World Tournament. These games are the definitive Pokémon experience.

3. Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen

While Pokémon Red and Blue (or Green) are the games that started the global monster-catching phenomenon and should be praised for their contribution, Game Freak demonstrated with FireRed and LeafGreen that nostalgia isn't the only factor at play, and even the most cherished originals can be enhanced.

5285680
FireRed and LeafGreen

FireRed and LeafGreen are exceptional remakes, introducing various new features such as a recap of past activities, initial attempts at wireless trading and battling, a fresh location in the Sevii Islands, and all the considerable improvements to typing, battling, and Pokémon moves that were added in subsequent generations. Although Red and Blue may still hold a special place in our hearts, the best way to revisit the remarkable Kanto region is through FireRed and LeafGreen.

4. Pokémon Emerald

Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire were impressive sequels to Gold and Silver, introducing double battles, abilities, and natures. However, it was Pokémon Emerald that refined everything that was excellent about those games into something truly exceptional. As the most fleshed-out "third" version in the franchise's history, it brought several worthwhile changes, with the Battle Frontier being the standout addition that made for the most comprehensive and rewarding post-game content in the series.

Emerald

With seven distinct facilities and seven challenging "Frontier Brain" trainers to face, it provided a serious test for Trainers, one that has arguably not been surpassed since. Even after two decades since its release, Pokémon Emerald still holds up as one of the finest Pokémon games ever created.

5. Pokémon Go

In 2016, The Pokémon Company collaborated with Niantic, an augmented reality game developer, to produce Pokémon Go, the mobile game that took the world by storm. We all remember the unforgettable summer when it felt like almost everyone was out and about on their own individual Pokémon journey. What began as a simple concept of searching for Pokémon to capture in real-world settings has evolved into an expansive mobile game with much more than just Pocket Monsters.

PVP battling, Team Rocket, and a plethora of other features have been included, transforming Pokémon Go into an impressively comprehensive game. And with several updates that have added new Pokémon, unique spawn events, and even Pokémon Go Fest, where Trainers from all over the world gather to play together, the game continues to thrive, offering a one-of-a-kind, never-ending source of entertainment.

Nintendo Switch has a great gaming catalog, with a lot of games worth trying out. However, these 4 titles are still the best.]]>

Nintendo Switch is one of the three top consoles in the world, alongside PlayStation and Xbox. While it is just a handheld device, the Switch has a formidable library of games, rivaling its competitors. In this article, Gurugamer is going to showcase the top 5 best Nintendo Switch exclusives to play in 2022.

1. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, is considered by many, one of the best games ever made.

The Legend Of Zelda Breath Of The Wild 4065

There is so much content, so many things to do, and so many places to explore. You are given complete freedom in this adventure, you can even try to beat the game as soon as you start. Freedom and exploration are perhaps the best gameplay aspects, without leaving behind the sheer amount of actions possible: cooking, riding horseback, climbing... Whether you actually beat the story is also up to you, there is so much to invest in this game you might never grow bored of it.

2. Super Mario Odyssey

Super Mario Odyssey is a jewel that shines with perfect controls, fresh possibilities and gameplay variety. Each kingdom is full of charm, clever objectives, gorgeous visuals, a stellar soundtrack, and a huge variety of ways to have fun.

Super Mario Odyssey

One moon would have players leaping across tiny platforms with pinpoint precision, and the next would have them cheering up a businessman by dressing like a clown. From the colorful graphics and well-executed game design to the sense of humor throughout the game, Super Mario Odyssey is everything you'd want in a console exclusive.

3. Xenoblade Chronicles

The low processing power of the Wii has definitely not been able to stop Monolith Soft from making one of the biggest role-playing game ever. The game has a huge open world and over 500 quests for players to explore.

63988692 Xenoblade Chronicles Wallpapers

Xenoblade is pretty much a single-player MMO, as the developers have taken a massive amount of inspiration from popular MMO like World of Warcraft. This applies to Xenoblade's alien landscapes and real-time automated combat system (the game can actually play by itself, with occasional inputs from players).

However, in typical JRPG fashion, the quests are mostly grind-heavy and combat challenges. Xenoblade might not offer a free open world like Skyrim, or an intricate story experience like The Witcher. However, if you are looking for a classic JRPG experience, this game is definitely something you would want to try.

4. Fire Emblem: Three Houses

Whatever path you choose, Fire Emblem: Three Houses is an absolute blast. This is the most ambitious videogame in the Fire Emblem series, with three campaigns and more than 100 hours of gameplay. If you want RPG tactical turns, this is one of the best options.

Fire Emblem Heroes Wallpaper Three Houses 4k By In

Story-wise, Three Houses narrates an enthralling tale that keeps you guessing. The characters are all quite likable, with the three storylines being different enough for additional replays. Gameplay-wise, Three Houses has rock-solid grid-based combat with deep squad customization and a great division of labor between its school and battlefield segments.

Finding an external memory card to have more storage on your Nintendo Switch console is always a great concern for many players.]]>

Finding an external memory card to have more storage on the Nintendo Switch consoles is always a great topic for many players. Although 32GB of memory is considered to be adequate for popular smartphones, the situation is quite different for consoles, especially those who have a large number of Nintendo Switch games from digital downloading and love taking screenshots or videos during their experience without any stop. Not messing around anymore, here're the best micro SD cards for the Switch so far.

Nintendo Switch
Which are the best micro SD cards for the Switch?

Table of Contents

 • #1 Sandisk microSDXC
 • #2 Kingston Canvas Select microSDXC
 • #3 SanDisk Ultra 400GB micro SDXC
 • Q1. Are Files Kept On Switch Memory Cards Too?
 • Q2. What Micro SD Cards Will Work On Nintendo Switch?

#1 Sandisk microSDXC

The most official micro SD card for the Switch

Widely known as a big memory card supplier for cameras, Sandisk undoubtedly receives the guarantee stamp from Nintendo, which allows it to manufacture products with a read speed of up to 100MB made for fast loading and a 30-year warranty as well.

Sandisk Microsdxc Nintendo Switch
Widely known as a big memory card supplier for cameras, Sandisk undoubtedly receives the guarantee stamp from Nintendo.

They are also attached to a friendly mushroom (for the 128GB model) or a Triforce design (for the 64GB model). In fact, when it is put in the console, you won’t care much about the design, but the manufacturer knows how to make you be aware of it. All in all, a Nintendo-developed memory card will never be a wrong choice by all means.

#2 Kingston Canvas Select microSDXC

Best for value - You can gain huge storage at an affordable price

Unlike the official Sandisk, Kingston does not own that luck but still be widely welcomed by a majority of users because its 128GB memory card can be purchased at a cheaper price compared to the equivalent of Sandisk. Although the load time might be a little bit slower, 80 mb/s in particular, your Switch devices, including every model of 16GB, 32GB, 64GB, 128GB, or 256GB, can live happily with it.

Kingston Canvas Select Microsdxc
Although the load time might be a little bit slower, 80 mb/s in particular, your Switch devices will live happily with Kingston Canvas Select microSDXC.

#3 SanDisk Ultra 400GB micro SDXC

Best for storage - It exceeds your imagination

Why? It’s for the 400GB memory card which can allow you to download without fearing your storage will run out someday. Technically, you will have 512GB, but spending a much more amount of money on just small add-up storage might be a waste of time. Therefore, a 400GB one will be an ideal recommendation, especially for those who are going to play lots of indie titles.

Sandisk Ultra 400gb Micro Sdxc
Spending a much more amount of money on just small add-up storage might be a waste of time, so we have the SanDisk Ultra 400GB micro SDXC.

Now, let the numbers speak out. Some game titles require a huge load of storage: for instance, Breath of the Wild will take up 13.4GB of space, equalling 40% of the console’s onboard storage. To be honest, Switch and Switch Lite will have the same problem. In order to avoid the storage expansion of Mario and Zelda, players can purchase AAA games on physical cartridges. But for complete convenience, compressing all the titles in just one handy Nintendo Switch memory card may sound much more appealing.

Sandisk Ultra 400gb Micro Sdxc 2
Switch and Switch Lite will have the same problem and that's when SanDisk Ultra 400GB micro SDXC takes action.

Q1. Are Files Kept On Switch Memory Cards Too?

It’s a definite no. You can only save your games, images, and videos onto the external memory cards. Save files are all saved on internal storage to prevent piracy, but thankfully, those files do not require much storage.

Micro Sd Card For Nintendo Switch
You can only save your games, images, and videos onto the external memory cards.

If you subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online, you can back up your save files to the cloud to prepare for the case that you unintentionally - or intentionally - break your console. The system also allows you to download every game you purchased before without paying any other fee.

Q2. What Micro SD Cards Will Work On Nintendo Switch?

Actually, any micro SD card below 4GB, micro SDHC from 4 to 32GB, and micro SDXC with an extended capacity above 32GB are all allowed to operate, even when you only want at least 16 to 32GB memory cards that worth your spending. High-speed memory cards are also suggested by Nintendo to achieve optimum performance, so you may need a card equipped with UHS-I support and a read speed of 60-95mb/s. Luckily, all the aforementioned cards meet these criteria.

Micro Sd Cards For The Switch

If you are using a micro SDXC memory card that exceeds 32GB, Nintendo will warn you to connect your console to the Internet to update the system before downloading games onto the card.

We've flicked through everything about micro SD cards for the Switch. Feel free to leave a comment below if you have any further questions!

After canceling their wedding due to COVID-19, one lucky player was surprised by a wedding ceremony in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.]]>

Covid-19 pandemic has steadily become a problem all over the world. Events from big like public gatherings or small like weddings are getting canceled left and right, due to them being a potential hotspot for virus transmission. A lot of people are finding it very difficult to deal with the newfound isolation and are trying to find a new way to keep connected. Video games are probably one of the most popular ways out there for people to maintain social contact with each other. One clever couple from the US, after having to postpone their wedding due to Coronavirus, decided to use a popular video game named Animal Crossing: New Horizons as the ground for their wedding instead.

This game is somewhat similar to Stardew Valley

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is Nintendo Switch’s flagship title in the first half of 2020. The fact that its release date was smack in the middle of the outbreak has actually become its unique advantage. As people are getting locked up inside, they would crave for entertainments and connections to other people – and both of those can be provided by Animal Crossing. There are a lot of things to do on a tropical island in Animal Crossing, from fishing, fruit gathering, crafting, or even recreating movie scenes.

People are figuring out some really interesting way to solve their problems in isolation

Ashmush, a Reddit user, has taken advantage of Animal Crossing’s gameplay to have his own wedding after everything was shut down by the government. Ashmush’s friends and fiancé has secretly gathered up in-game items to build an elaborate ocean-side ceremony, complete with a path made from hearts, lined with torches and flowers. While there is a path-making tool in the game, the guy made everything manually – the path took 2 hours to complete, along with a lot of time for gathering materials prior.

<![CDATA[Coronavirus: How The New Outbreak Has Affected Gaming Giants Like Nintendo, Ubisoft, Sony And Microsoft]]> https://gurugamer.com/reviews/coronavirus-affect-gaming-8924 Mon, 17 Feb 2020 16:16:00 +0000 https://gurugamer.com/reviews/coronavirus-affect-gaming-8924
The coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak has led to disruptions and delays in many normal operations and business transactions. The gaming industry has not been spared from the virus' wrath.]]>

The coronavirus outbreak has caused the government in China to employ many measures to control the disease. These include extending the Lunar New Year holiday and suspending production in many factories. However, this also meant a lot of manufacturing was disrupted in a country that produces most of the world's electronics.

Like many of the businesses operating in China, the gaming industry is also being under a lot of pressure. There have been many delays in production, with the Nintendo Switch going through two delays. The more the virus spreads and the Chinese government takes more tough measures against it, the longer the gaming industry will suffer.

The infection cases have reached over 70,000 and continue to rise, while health authorities are working on a vaccine. So far, we don't know when the outbreak will begin to subside. But what we know is there are already many examples of video game companies in trouble so far.

Nintendo in a rough spot

One of the first instances of this is the delay in the production of the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo CEO Shuntaro Furukawa said that this was "unavoidable". The company already moved some of its production chains to neighboring Vietnam because of the trade war, but most of them are still in China.

Nintendo suffered another delay related to the Switch. Shipments of the Joy-Con controllers and Ring Fit Adventure games to Japan have been delayed as a result of the coronavirus. Nintendo said that shipments to the West would continue as before, citing the lack of a similar effect on its supply chain.

A recent report claimed that other consoles like the Xbox Series X and the PS5 could also hit a delay. But other news outlets have asserted Microsoft and Sony are not delaying their console shipments.

Relatedly, Private Division, a Take-Two Interactive label could not release the port of the game "The Outer Worlds" to the Switch on time, because of the coronavirus affecting its Chinese partner.

Impacts on other companies

Production in other gaming equipment also "caught" the virus. The Oculus Quest VR units will be further impacted by existing shortages as a result of this outbreak.

Many video game companies employ subsidiaries and studios in China to work on asset production. As a result, the coronavirus caused game development and publishing companies to receive a hit to their operations.

Ubisoft CEO Yes Guillemot talked about a disruption in its operations in China but avoided mentioning the virus directly. There are several Ubisoft studios in China that Guillemot said had closed due to the "disruption," but would reopen starting this week.

"At the moment it's easy to handle," Guillemot said. "We don't know what's going to happen. What you can expect is that we will be able to work with all the other studios we have in case it's too long".

Coronavirus disrupting esports

Various esports events around the world have not escaped the wrath of the coronavirus. Activision-Blizzard suspended all Overwatch League matches in China. PUBG Corp and Riot Games did the same to many PUBG and LoL events.

One of these events was the PGS: Berlin PUBG esports event, which had to be postponed from its original April schedule. PUBG Corp said in a statement: “We will provide updates once we have a better understanding of the best options for esports fans, players, and staff”.

There have been multiple esports postponements and cancellations

“We thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate this situation,” said PUBG Corp. This shows that it's not just in China where disruptions have taken place, but also in Europe and other parts of the world.

One video game seems to do well in the midst of a virus outbreak. The game "Plague Inc." has seen a spike in sales just as the movie "Contagion" has. About this, developer Ndemic Creations said this usually happens during disease outbreaks. The developer also warned players to not take it too seriously.
