Valve just announced the Steam Deck, a handheld device with the power to run the latest AAA games.

The Steam Deck has a shape like the Nintendo Switch. It can be plugged into a monitor to use as a PC. It runs SteamOS and can be used to play PC games.

Apart from playing games, you can do other things such as surfing webs, streaming, watching videos, whatever a normal PC can do. You can plug in a USB-C dock with DisplayPort and HDMI output, an Ethernet adapter, and three USB ports. There is a slot for a memory card to increase your storage space. You can even remove SteamOS and install Windows on the device.

The device has a 40Whr battery. Depending on your usage, it can last for 2-8 hours. There is a quick function that will send the device to sleep mode and you can wake it up later when you want to.

It also could be that Valve is preparing to upgrade CS:GO to Source 2.0 since CS:GO Source 2 has been introduced by Valve for quite some time already. It also might be that some hacker has attacked Steam and deleted the Steam page of CS:GO.

However, these are just speculations and the truth is that no one knows what is happening right now

If you have ever dreamed of being a millionaire and use that money to buy the entire library of games that currently exist on Steam, from now on you will know the exact amount you should be ready to shell out.

A programmer has created a web page where you can find out exactly how much it would cost you to buy the entire library of games on Steam, and the only thing you will need is a little over half a million dollars, or quite a bit less if you can find them on sale like during the previous discount period for Halloween.

The figures are available thanks to a calculator that is updated periodically using the latest statistics. At the time of writing, you can buy the entire Steam catalog for $556,523.31 (INR ~4.14 Crores), or at a discount for $550,252.70 (INR ~4.09 Crores). If you manage to get all the games during Halloween, you would only have to pay $437,975.13 (INR ~3.25 Crores).

On the graph above, you can see how the price of the entire catalog of titles has increased exponentially since July 2017, basically because there are now many more titles than there were three years ago. The different peaks have to do with sales and discount periods, like the previous Halloween that just passed or the recent summer sales, among others over time.

Thanks to this calculator, which is updated every 24 hours approximately, you will be able to know the monetary value of all the titles that are currently on Steam at any time in recent history.

Note that the current value of $556,523.31 refers to titles without discount and without taking into account the different additional content, and on average you would be paying $ 11.59 per title, knowing there are many games that are worth only a few cents or even free.

Be that as it may, Steam is the most important and popular platform for the sale of digital games on PC in the world, and has gained in value in recent years, although perhaps with less aggressive sales and discounts than we used to have several years ago.

Half-Life: Alyx has been taking the world of virtual reality by storm, earning much praise and compliments for pushing VR even further. But the game being exclusively on VR at this stage is still keeping out a lot of potential players.

But it looks like many of the VR-less people might get to enjoy Alyx at some point in the future, after evidence showing that the game is very playable without VR, only using mouse and keyboard like a regular PC game.

Valve News Network founder Tyler McVicker recently found out that Half-Life: Alyx functions just fine with only keyboard and mouse using some commands. There's no need for the game to require VR after putting in some commands and tweaks. You can check out a footage of that below:

The answer to this diverges significantly depending on which members of the team you talk to, so this answer is definitely just from me. There are a set of people on the team that are concerned about that. Personally, I’m not concerned about it at all. It will clearly demonstrate to people why we did Half-Life: Alyx in VR. It will be a very crisp way of seeing all the stuff we got for the move into VR. If people play a modded version on a standard display and say this is is just as good, that will teach me a lot. I will realize I’m wrong, and we didn’t get as much as we thought, and I love to know whenever I’m wrong.

Valve Corporation, owner of Steam, often showcases games that have had success on their distribution platform. Recently, their blog post on the top releases of January 2020 indicated that last month was a good start for the company. What's outstanding about this list of top releases is games from China, Japan, and Korea completely dominated it.

Out of a list of 20 top games, 13 of them came from Asian studios. "Sands of Salzaar" by Han-Squirrel Studio, a Chinese RPG game which just came out last month, has proven itself an unexpected sleeper hit among Steam users. The game currently holds a 92% score on the platform. Other than "Sands," China also contributed "Paranormal HK" to the list. Meanwhile, the rest of Asia had eight games from Japan, two from South Korea, and one from Indonesia.

Valve believes that the global popularity of Steam has allowed for this shift, since almost half of January's top releases did not even have English localization. “Not too long ago, including English support at launch was a requirement for success on Steam,” the Steam blog post goes.

“English-speakers are still a huge part of Steam’s audience, but the success of January’s top releases reinforces the fact that now, more than ever, Steam players come from all over the world and will support a huge variety of language options.”
