The first animated series to come from League of Legends publisher/developer Riot Games is set to premiere later this fall. The series follows the origin story of two iconic League champions, Jinx and Vi. In the trailer, they can be seen in the utopian region of Piltover as well as the oppressed underground of Zaun. League of Legends Will Debut Its Animated Series Arcane On Netflix

Riot Games confirms the plan to premiere its first animation of the League of Legends franchise on Netflix. This marks the company's first attempt at television. And for China, the series will premiere on Tencent Video in China.

Fans of the popular MOBA game League of Legends can not contain their excitement on the new series premiere. Arcane will shed light on the origin story of two of the most adored champions in the entire game. Riot Games also promises it to be a visual thrill ride that leaves the audience on the edge of their seats.

For so long, fans have begged Riot Games to make a cinematic adaptation of the game. And this time, their wish has been fulfilled. “Arcane was created as a love letter to our players and fans, who have been asking us for more cinematic experiences that dive deeper into the worlds and champions in League of Legends", said Shauna Spenley, Riot Game’s Global President of Entertainment.

However, League of Legends is not the first MOBA game to make its debut on Netflix. The global streaming platform takes pride in delivering premium, high-quality content, making it the perfect partner for those who want a booming debut.

Gamers can now officially play League of Legends: Wild Rift on Android and iOS. Sadly, for now, only players in several countries can access Phase 1 of the open beta for League of Legends: Wild Rift, including Korea, Japan, Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand.

Supporting in many games is often the most disliked role simply because it isn’t the role where you “deal tons of damage” or where you are “the star of the show.” Even though support isn’t as widely loved as other roles like “ADC” or “Mid,” it is an essential role to have.

1. Types of Supports and Overall Review

The Healer

Probably the most boring of the support types is playing a healer. There’s not much you can do other than heal your ally from time to time, and a slight poke on enemies every so often, but when paired with a good ADC you’ll be on your way to dominating the lane because all you have to do is keep your ADC alive (of course... They’d have to want to be alive as well). During the current state of the game, this role is neither underperforming, or overwhelming. It’s at a pretty good balance between the two depending on what matchup you get.

Healer Support Problems

1. When your ADC is behind you don’t have the damage output to help them claim kills once they are behind unless the enemy team slips up. When you are not behind, the role relies heavily on being able to heal at a moment’s notice.

2. You have VERY high mana costs which can be bad when your ally is behind and getting poked constantly. It usually leads to you having to go back and restore your mana, leaving your ADC to fend for themselves, and you to lose EXP.

3. You will likely be the target of any assassin champions since you are by default squishy, unless you play one of the few exceptions like Taric

The Tank

The tank is the most beneficial of supports during later parts of the game because they are still prominent and a lot more potent as they gain level and reduce the cooldowns of their stuns and taunts. It’s a very enjoyable and well-paced way to play the game as a support especially for those who like to be tanky, as well as annoying for enemy players.

Tank Support Problems

1. If your teammates will not follow you in then you will die, or end up being low health and having to leave them vulnerable for until you return. This role requires a full team effort. Otherwise, your potential is unused.

2. Most tank supports lack range or movement speed. Due to the extra stuns, taunts, slows, and other forms of crowd control you’ll be lacking movement speed and range as a way to balance out the effectiveness of your crowd control.

3. Tanks often have poor dueling (1v1) potential against other champions. You may be able to sustain long enough for an ally to assist you, but you won't be dealing a ton of damage throughout the game with most tanks.

The Poker

A high-risk, high-reward type of playstyle that can be done with quite a few champions. This playstyle relies heavily on being long-ranged, high damage, and a fast, decisive player. This type of support is a lot of fun to play, but really lacks a late game if your teammates do not decide to try and end the game earlier.

Poke Support Problems

1. You may have high damage early on, but that damage falls off horribly if the enemy team is not severely behind, or have a tank that can just ram through your damage with no issues. For example: as Xerath in the support role, you may deal a lot of damage to the enemy ADC early on, but if you’re just not over the top rolling over the enemy team, their tank can just run straight to you or your ADC if neither of you have enough damage to stop them.

2. Poke supports usually require that you can aim and predict movements of enemies. If you aren’t comfortable with aiming your abilities and landing them then this particular support type is definitely not for you. A lot of the abilities for champions with high range also have a window of escape/dodge as well. Champions like Vayne Lucian could easily just move out of the way.

3. They have very limited crowd control in most situations. You may have the potential to attack from a distance with no punishment (if you can aim of course) but you will also lose defensive properties. Most of these champions like Brand and Vel-Koz only have one stun. If that stun misses during a gank or a team fight it can change the entire outcome.

The Grab

This support type is possibly the most rewarding and most popular type of support being played currently. It has a good balance between crowd control, offensiveness, defensiveness, and overall tankiness. Even when behind this type of support can still manage to turn the tide of most games with a single grab of an enemy champion (although there are instances where grab supports grab an enemy closer to an ally who is about to die). Most of these grab supports are equipped with a shield or some way to sustain after landing the grab.

Grab Support Problems

1. While playing a grab support, you’ll often encounter similar problems as a tank support. When you land a grab if no one else is following up with your play you’ll likely end up taking needless damage. This type of support is heavily reliant on having allies that can deal a decent amount of damage to ensure your abilities aren’t wasted.

2. Sometimes when you’re playing a support that can grab, you may end up grabbing the wrong person. It’s especially detrimental when you grab the enemy team’s tank and put them in a better position. And sometimes grabbing an enemy may not be the best option with a champion like Blitzcrank when a nearby ally is low health.

3. Supports that have grabs often have almost no solo damage. For example: Leona is a great champion with tons of stuns, but she doesn’t deal much damage on her own and her abilities will activate her passive which allows an ally to deal more damage. When you are alone whether it be because your lane partner dies, or you’re just out warding an area, most of the time you can’t defend yourself without an ally to assist you.

2. Problems with the Overall Support Role

Lack of EXP

From playing support so often I tend to see that support usually, if not always, falls behind in experience points. So much that even taking Teleport as a summoner spell still results in you being 1 to 3 levels behind for the majority of the game. You are usually one of the last players to reach level 6. Going out to place wards does not provide you with experience like taking a ward out will. Even taking a ward out doesn’t provide very many experience points. In some games it can be hard to find a balance between having vision on the map, or having more experience points.

High Damage Supports

“Supports” like Brand and Zyra with very high damage output are usually overwhelmingly powerful in lane and even after the lane phase. Simply building something like Liandry’s Torment puts Brand at a spot where he will always deal damage at any point in the game because of his passive ability to burn enemies over time. Players who like to play it safe can play it safe with supports like these while still dealing massive damage over time without having to be up-front.

Pyke

Yes, Pyke gets a category of his own. He has been and still is a problem in the current state of the game. With very low cooldowns for his abilities that all can be offensive and defensive, high damage output spells, and insanely high mobility and sustain, He is very low risk and very high reward with an ultimate that can execute any champion while they are below his ultimate damage threshold that can reach up to 700 easily regardless of barriers. If a target is executed, he continues to have his ultimate for several seconds. After playing Pyke before and after his nerfs, he is still too oppressive and defensive due to his ability to heal, stun, grab, go into stealth, supply allies with 100% assist gold, and slow enemies. This makes Pyke one of the most beneficial supports ever made. His win rate may not be so golden right now, but if you have ever been placed against a really good Pyke, you’ve seen how ridiculous it is to actually catch and kill him or anyone near him.

ADC is a Lacking Role

ADC is very much a lacking role in the current state of the game with all the patches gearing more towards making assassins and tanks more effective. This affects support significantly because you end up supporting a champion that is already pretty lacking in the current meta of the game. Unless your ADC is on par with everyone else or ahead of everyone else, supporting your ADC late game seems to be less effective than supporting your mid laner or someone else. I’ve even found it to be more beneficial to even leave bottom lane in high gold to platinum ranking and just help everyone else when you are losing your lane.

3. Things that are Good in Support Now

Support Items

The items you can use in the current state of the game are pretty well balanced as they are now. Gold income items are a lot more useful than they used to be and now upgrade automatically without having to spend that extra 500 gold to buy your next support item. The most recent changes to gold income items have also helped even out the support role from gaining too much gold and being at an advantage just from getting first blood gold. The active items added into the game and new passives added to certain items over the years have helped supports shine exponentially.

Support’s Overall In-Game Effectiveness

Support is an underappreciated role and has had many changes over the years to help them stay within the meta in terms of effectiveness. All of those changes have made support a very good role in the current meta and a “Must Have” kind of role. A good support can turn the tide of a game with one good team fight. Most supports are pretty well balanced throughout all parts of the game from start to finish.

Healers

Healing supports in this game have been tweaked time and time again, and they have finally reached a point where the healers are a good balance between “not too much” and “not too little.” The pacing of healers is low early on to massive later to match the scaling damage of others. Changes to support items that grant more healing and mana regeneration have definitely helped the healing support role shine.

You can now climb the ranked ladder with the role of support with all the changes over the years. It may not be as exciting as playing mid lane or bottom lane, but it can be done. It was the 3rd edition of the LoL Mid-Season Invitational. It started small with just the initial prize pool of 250,000 dollars back in 2015. But then thanks to skin sales, the prize pool of this event has risen to 1.6 million dollars.

When business organizers and esports players are getting together with biotech executives at an upscale investor conference, only one thing could be the reason: competitive video games are going mainstream.

Not any news could make game publishers as happy as that one. Indeed, every game developer shares the same hope that one day their product would be recognized on a worldwide scale. Annually, global esports tournaments have been creating big marketing opportunities. Take League of Legends, for instance, the veteran in the gaming industry added up to $1.4 billion in 2018 for Tencent Holding s Ltd. Also, in that same year, four out of six top esports brands by prize value were listed among 20 highest-earning games.

However, every success has its cost, and many times it is not cheap at all. For the last year, Tencent had invested over a billion dollars into two Chinese reputed platforms for live streaming video games – Huya and Douya. There is no gainsaying that they both burn down the budget at the speed of light.

To get the profit, real dollars must be invested in the first place. Most of Chinese famous League of Legends teams have strong financial forces backing them up. The owner of the current world champion team is Wang Sicong, whose father was once the richest man in China and is now the chairman in Dalian Wanda Group Co. Another example could be the EFG club, which is lucky enough to be held by the son of the founder of Hopson Development Holdings Ltd., Zhu Yihang.

Unlike the aforementioned ones, LGD-Gaming was founded in 2007 by Pan Jie – a shy single mother with 32 years of age who did not originate from a billionaire family. However, she somehow was able to establish the greatest esports club in China up to now and earn the title “the Queen” for herself. Her achievement is admired by many people, especially Dota 2 professional players.

Pan Jie grew up as an earnest daughter of a small-scale businessman in Nantong port city, Jiangsu province. She confided that she used to skip classes to play games at the internet shop during her time in university. That is around the time she discovered her love in the multiplayer online battle arena – MOBA games. It is not the gameplay, but the training and discipline required are appealing to Pan Jie.

That spirit will absolutely continue to serve her and her clubs well. Similar to other sports such as football or basketball, esports pro player also needs to be hired with massive amounts of money. Not to mention that MOBA games in common requires 5 participants each match, the number is added up very quickly to recruit a fully functioned team. Howbeit, that is the way LGD earn 15% of their income – by transferring players.

By winning a prize at a tournament, players are allowed to take home 90% of the amount. With the 10% remaining, clubs and teams have to manage to earn money by themselves, possibly via media rights or sponsorships. No matter how rich the team is, even wealthy teams have to act the same if they want to survive.

To catch up with others in such a hyper-competitive landscape like this, LGD has decided to develop a farm team with professional coaches and millions of online amateurs. Besides, the club has established relationships with betting or predicting applications.

Worth-noting information is that: not every team finds success and are capable of keeping their organizations run smoothly. One apparent evidence is the bankruptcy of Wang Sicong’s streaming network. That is a worthy lesson for current platforms – Huya and Douyu. Now that is everything I would like to tell about LGD – Gaming and the current situation of video games.

What is the public opinion about a video game at this moment? Has it turned bad again like in the 80s and 90s? Video games still have some detractors until this very day. Just check out the online news and you will see countless criticisms about the video games industry. On all the media platforms, they keep on saying that games are associated with autism, epilepsy... Just recently, many concerned parents have spoken up to voice their concerns about the link between mass shootings and violent video games, and they even tried to limit the time young people spend on games like PUBG or Fortnite.

If we have teenagers drop out of school because of LOL, Fortnite or Apex Legends, then it is time for us to start adapting our education system. New technologies have made way for video games but they could also be used to encourage education. The weave of society have changed, so being a pro Fornite player is also a career option.

We believe that video games aren't bad at all. In fact. we could use video games to bring family's members together easier than ever.

Video games' benefits

From the University of Arkansas, professor Camilla Shumaker is researching on how games could help us to improve our problem solving and focus skills. This might directly opposite the popular belief about all the side effects of games. But if you look at video games the same way we look at sports, theatre or learning tools, we could notice that an individual could benefit a lot from playing video games. Beyond all the coordination, focus, and mental skills there is also social benefit - particularly the familial benefit. To identify this, a group of researchers from the University of Arizona State has conducted an experiment about the usage of games by participants from many age groups. From the experiment they have conducted, they noticed that the more parents and children spend time playing video games together, the closer they are.

The Delbert & Jewell Lewis Chair in Reading & Literacy,  professor Elizabeth Hayes has said in an interview about this research. She said that playing games with children are a great way for parents to spend time with them. Maybe most parents don't understand this but playing and sharing the experiences of video games is a great way to teach children about literacy, science and problem-solving. In the process, parents could also integrate their own way of teaching into the game.

Hayes and her team at Arizona State University have done a great job with their Impact Guides, which demonstrates the way game-playing kids and parents can work together to find the right kind of game. Maybe letting a 7-year-old play Red Dead Redemption is not a very good idea, but there are many other games out there.

Establish the bond

When playing with your children, try to understand their love for video games instead of chastising them. That way you could enrich your relationship with your children. That's also what makes many game studios proud of their works.

Currently, society is working on the foundation that was reestablished by the giants in family entertainment. Take jokes that only adults can get in a cartoon for children as an example. The content aims at kids, but adults could also enjoy them nonetheless. The important part is to design an experience for the kid but one that adults can enjoy as well. These producers are working on a very confirmed fact: now is the time of gamer dads and moms with all of their purchasing power. Like recently, we have had the Switch which is both aimed for children and parents. The console is kid-friendly but also appeal to the adults because of the nostalgia feeling of sharing a screen on a Nintendo machine.

On the other hand, we have the PS4 PlayLink which will help to bring non-players and players together with an interesting twist. It uses mobile devices to break the entrance barrier of learning to use a new controller. Who doesn't have a smartphone or tablet these days, right? One game - Melbits World - even took a step further than that. It replaced the competing experience with collaboration and union. What can be more fun than a smartphone help bringing the family together, right?

So with this hot trend, how will we tackle that needs for parents and children to play together? We should try to look at it from another point of view. Just spend time with your children. If you are gamers, play video games with them.  Ỏr in case you are a parent who is concerned about the games they play, then join them to understand more about it. Just like sports, video games could really help to build up social, problem solving and focus skills mostly in the early days of the child. But the most important thing is that it helps strengthen the bond between children and parents.

So gaming is slowly working its way to be viewed as a healthy activity for the whole family. Working toward that goal arguably has amazing potentials both on the long and mid-term. When we put into context the average family, video games just make sense as a mean of entertainment and a way for the whole family to bond together because there are much more than just Co-op or multiplayer in PC or Console titles.

All of that is just the very start of this age of family games. These games will very soon become a tradition in our home, like kids football game or baseball Sundays. We have the power to use video games for the greater good. So we must take this chance and do it right.

For every League of Legends (LoL) fans, you must have spotted that in the recent years, the game becomes more “Chinese”: more Chinese themed skins, new champions or reworked champions carrying Chinese vibes, Lunar New Year events lasting longer with more valued rewards. All of these are the results of Tencent purchasing Riot Games in 2011. And the same thing happened with Fortnite: Tencent bought and now owning Epic Games.

Even more, Tencent is currently owning a few more famous game developer. This list contains Supercell (a mobile game developer owning Clash of Clans, Clash Royale, Hay Day …), Miniclip SA (an online website gaming), Grinding Gear Games (a New Zealand game developer owning Path of Exile).

All of these make Tencent become one of the most powerful gaming company in the world. And luckily for us, Tencent also sees esports as a promising long term investment. In 2018, Tencent has already created an ecosystem for esports in China with many esports titles. The MOBA mobile game Honor of Kings (also known as Arena of Valor in EU market) esports championships generated over 1.3 billion dollars in 2018 alone for Tencent.

In a recent interview, Mr. Hou Miao – Tencent’s e-sports division manager – said that while the short term revenues from esports are not enough to leave any profits (after subtracting the cost), esports have the capability to create long-term profits, as well as a safe play for gamers to entertain, learn and grow. Mr. Hou Miao also revealed a quite interesting fact is that many local Chinese governments are forming cooperation with Tencent in organizing and running high-level esports tournaments.

But Tencent doesn’t show any sign of slowing down. The ambitions of this gaming corporation are getting higher and higher every day. Tencent now is in the negotiation with EA to bring Apex Legends to China with an exclusive distribution right. Needless to introduce anything more about EA and Reswapn Entertainment’s newest battle Royale FPS hit. Despite being released for one month only, this game has taken down multiple Fortnite's record. Even more, Apex Legends has gained for itself numerous esports tournament already. Imagine how huge this game would be when it sets foot to the most crowded country in the world. If this deal goes well for Tencent and EA, it will bring Tencent to a whole new level of power in gaming and esports industry.

In February 2019, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security in China (CMHRSS) has officially recognized esports as a profession in China. That means you can put these professions in your CV: "esports operator" and "esports professional." The Chinese government is being more open to gaming industry than ever before, and with Chinese team Invictus Gaming’s convincing victory in the 2018 League of Legends World Championship last year, Tencent looks like they will have a bright 2019.
