Activision has officially announced that the much-anticipated Call of Duty x Squid Game collaboration is set to launch on January 3.]]>

The Call of Duty x Squid Game collaboration, first revealed earlier this month, is scheduled to launch just one week after the premiere of the show's second season, which is currently streaming on Netflix.

While it may not rival the scale of Fortnite's numerous crossovers, Call of Duty's partnership with Squid Game is the latest in a series of high-profile collaborations featured in Activision's blockbuster FPS. Over the years, Call of Duty has teamed up with horror franchises like Scream and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, hip-hop icons such as Snoop Dogg and Nicki Minaj, and even global football stars like Lionel Messi. With its ongoing popularity, many more collaborations are likely on the horizon, and the next one could be just around the corner.

In a newly released trailer, Activision confirmed that the highly anticipated Call of Duty x Squid Game collaboration will officially launch on Friday, January 3. The trailer's description teases an exciting lineup, including Squid Game-themed operator skins, weapon blueprints, limited-time modes, and more. While details about the limited-time modes remain unconfirmed, the trailer hints at the inclusion of the show's iconic "red light, green light" game. In this mode, players race to cross the finish line but must freeze completely whenever "red light" is called, or face elimination.

The trailer also offers a detailed glimpse at the Squid Game-themed skins set to arrive in Call of Duty as part of this collaboration. Players can expect to see the iconic red jumpsuits worn by the show’s enforcers and the mysterious Front Man's black attire, among other cosmetics. These bundles are expected to include operator skins, weapon blueprints, and more, giving fans plenty of customization options during the collaboration.

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary released the first trailer for A Minecraft Movie, which is based on the popular sandbox game Minecraft. Because of the game’s popularity, the trailer quickly got over 9M views on YouTube in just 9 hours. As of now, it reached 18M views.

Disappointingly, despite the global love for Minecraft, the A Minecraft Movie adaptation faced a lot of criticism right after the first trailer was released.

Watch A Minecraft Movie official trailer here:

It’s not worth the wait!

A comment on YouTube said, "I don't get why they chose to use actors in the Minecraft world when the game could be fully adapted into animation. The effects and techniques look awful."

Explaining these mixed opinions, the gaming community said that the film’s quality has really disappointed fans of the game. Many people also compared the trailer's effects to AI-generated content.

The combination of live-action and CGI graphics makes many people feel that this is a "cheap" imitation, simply using Minecraft's popularity and Hollywood stars to attract attention.

Another user thought that casting Jack Black was a huge mistake for the movie because he had recently appeared in the poorly received Borderlands adaptation.

Nevertheless, many believe that the Minecraft movie will still be a financial success due to the game's immense popularity. "The movie looks terrible, but we’ll still go see it anyway," commented a YouTuber.

<![CDATA[Three UK Movies That Are Now Top Online Slots]]> https://gurugamer.com/movies/three-uk-movies-that-are-now-top-online-slots-23904 Wed, 26 Jun 2024 15:35:00 +0000 https://gurugamer.com/movies/three-uk-movies-that-are-now-top-online-slots-23904
Let’s take a look at three that will give you a great time and hopefully some wins too. They may make for excellent slot games but would make a rather strange triple bill at the cinema.]]>

There are many themes used for slot games and adapting popular movies is a popular move to make. This is because there is already an audience for the product and that’s preferable to trying out something completely new.

When visiting an online casino like bet365 or taking advantage of the this Mr Play bonus, you can try your luck on some slots that are based on UK movies. Let’s take a look at three that will give you a great time and hopefully some wins too. They may make for excellent slot games but would make a rather strange triple bill at the cinema.

Downton Abbey

Downton Abbey

The first of our movies that have been turned into slots began as a TV series. ‘Downton Abbey’ was a massive success on the small screen and the movies and is doing well as a slot game too.

This Skywind slot game can see a massive prize being won. That’s because it offers three progressive jackpots. There are 40 paylines in this game and not surprisingly, you can see Downton Abbey in the background.

Not all the reels are in play when you start playing this slot. Initially, only the downstairs reels are visible. Fans of the series/movie will love seeing symbols of characters such as Anna and John Bates, Thomas Barrow and Mr Carson.

There’s also a bell symbol and if this ends up in the activation zone, then the upstairs reels finally appear. That’s populated by symbols of the Crawley family including Matthew, Robert and Cora.

Plenty of bonus games are available in this slot. You’ll see more wilds on the screen in the ‘Call to Service’ round. A new calculation is made after they appear, so hopefully a big win is on its way.

Trigger the Duty Calls Free Games feature via the Flower Show and you’ll receive at least 10 free spins. Depending on how many scatters trigger the bonus round, you can get as many as 28 free spins to play with. It’s also possible to get yet more free spins awarded and the ‘Call to Service’ feature is also active here.

There’s also the ‘Downton Village Flower Show’ which is a pick ‘em round and gives you the chance to win one of the progressive jackpots. There’s plenty to enjoy here even if you’ve never seen ‘Downton Abbey.’

Carry On Camping

Carry On Camping

There’s talk of a new Carry On movie but they’ll be hard pushed to beat the originals. They were never exactly PC but boy they were funny! The movie was filmed on a cheap budget and at a time of the year when it wasn’t exactly warm. Mind you, it was made in England so what do you expect?

Blueprint Gaming have turned this 1970s release into a slot game and there is a retro feel here. There are plenty of fruit symbols on the three reels as was the case when this movie hit the cinemas.

We also get to see Kenneth Williams and Sid James but Barbara Windsor fails to make an appearance. Other symbols include a traditional English fry-up.

Each symbol has a number on them and if they total at least eight, then off to the Super Board you go. The screen now expands and more bonus features come into play. In total, there are ten in this entertaining slot game.

There are multipliers that can help boost your account balance. That’ll be the case if they get as high as 1000x. More wins come from the cash ladder which is contained in the Crazy Camper feature. If you already love Sid James, you’ll be even more of a fan of him if he’s chosen in the Pick Me game.

The Curse of Frankenstein

The Curse Of Frankenstein

We go back to 1957 for the final UK movie that is now an online slot game. In the 1930s Universal Studios released a series of successful monster movies. Two decades later in the UK, Hammer made their versions and also enjoyed great success.

One of the biggest hits was ‘The Curse of Frankenstein’ starring Peter Cushing as the Baron and Christopher Lee in the role of the monster.

This is another top slot from Barcrest and it will bring back plenty of memories of the hit horror movie. The main characters all appear on the symbols list and some of the original music too.

Free spins are available in the bonus game if you can get three Hammer logo scatters on the reels. During the free spins, any win you’ll get will be doubled. It’s also possible to be awarded more free spins. What is scary about this game is just how much money you can win if your luck is in.

 • The Gambler (1974)
 • The Gambler (2014)
 • Hard Eight (1996)
 • Rounders (1998)

The casino is one of the ultimate movie settings. Casinos have built-in drama, coupled with exciting and engaging visuals of the casino floor. Gambling has a natural story arc that works well for cinema. On top of all that, the casino setting is perfect for oddball background characters.

The movies on our list are all iconic casino films and are all important in their own way. We know it’s annoying to navigate through all of the various streaming services, so we’ve also included where you can find each of these movies streaming.

Casino (1995)

Casino 1995

Five years after his hit film Goodfellas, Martin Scorsese returned to the mafia underworld with Casino. Starring Robert De Niro as a sports betting expert recruited by the Mafia to run one of its casinos in Las Vegas, it charts his rise and ultimate fall as the world he’s involved in becomes increasingly unstable.

Casino captures the seedy, dangerous behind the scenes side of gambling. It almost makes going to a physical casino to play seem like a bad idea. The film uncovers the dark underbelly of the gambling world, making one reconsider the appeal of physical casinos. For those drawn to the thrill of the games but wary of the dangers, online platforms like Dailyspins Casino offer a safer yet exhilarating experience, especially when paired with a movie night featuring classics like Casino.

Casino is currently available on DirectTV, Fubo, Paramount+, and Peacock Premium.

Ocean’s 11 (2001)

If you want a casino heist movie, there is nothing better than Ocean’s 11. This film’s elaborate plot is brought to life by a stellar ensemble cast, including George Clooney, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, Elliott Gould, Bernie Mac, and Qin Shaobo. Ocean’s 11 creates a perfect fantasy of the casino as a glamorous and fashionable location enhanced by the presence of Clooney and Julia Roberts!

Online casinos might lack some of the glamour of the Vegas resort casinos but at least you have the peace of mind of knowing that Danny Ocean will never turn up with his crew to steal your winnings.

You can find Ocean’s 11 on HBOMax, DirectTV, TruTV, and TNT. You can find the sequels, Ocean’s 12 (2004) and Ocean’s 13 (2007), on these services as well.

The Gambler (1974)

James Caan stars as the titular gambler, a professor who just can’t seem to stop losing. His life spirals out of control as his debts to a Mafia bookmaker rise. Despite having a privileged position as a literature professor from a wealthy family, his gambling addiction and inner demons control his life.

It is an interesting look at the power of self-destructive impulses. The plot of the film is inspired by screenwriter James Toback’s own experiences and by Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s novel, The Gambler.

The Gambler (1974) is currently available to stream on Paramount+ and Apple TV.

The Gambler (2014)

Is there such a thing as too much of a good thing? This remake of the 1974 film stars Mark Wahlberg and John Goodman. While this version is less acclaimed than the original, it is still worth a watch to see how the story has been revamped for contemporary audiences. It shows all of the traditional gambling pitfalls but it would have been improved by showing the protective measures that are in place for online gambling and how it becomes an individual’s choice to circumvent them.

The Gambler (2014) is now streaming on Paramount+ and Apple TV.

Hard Eight (1996)

Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, Hard Eight avoids the cliches of big wins and losses under the Vegas lights and instead tells the story of a small-time professional gambler working out of Reno, Nevada. The professional gambler, played by Philip Baker Hall, takes a young man (John C. Reilly) under his wing and teaches him the way of his trade.

The drama comes when Gwyneth Paltrow and Samuel L. Jackson’s characters are introduced and the carefully constructed life that Hall’s character has built for himself is threatened. It is a classic story from the casino genre and helps us to see the smaller stories that play out on the casino floor.

This absolute classic can be found on Paramount+, Fubo, Amazon Prime, and MGM+.

Rounders (1998)

Rounders has been largely overlooked in recent years, despite being a very enjoyable casino film. This might be partly due to Matt Damon’s character seeming too similar to his Good Will Hunting character. Or perhaps it’s down to John Malkovich’s bizarro Russian accent (though that may be a selling point for some!).

The story follows a law student (Damon) who is a poker expert that took one too many big risks and had to give up playing. When his friend (Edward Norton) is in danger from some loan sharks, it’s time to come out of poker retirement and risk it all.

The film does a fantastic job of showing just how addictive the fun and thrill of playing poker can be and it would be intriguing to see an updated version that shows how online poker has the same power.

Rounders is currently streaming on DirectTV, Fubo, Paramount+, and Showtime.

 • Interesting facts from the 90s
 • Conclusion

The 1990s proved to be a pivotal period for movies, characterized by revolutionary technological progress, innovative storytelling techniques, and the rise of distinct artistic perspectives that challenged conventional narratives. That was also the era when lesbian characters emerged in movies. Of course, it was not at its very best in the early days, but things gradually changed for the better.

Lesbian Movies 90s

Today's social and cinematic evolution

In recent years, there has been a noticeable transformation in the portrayal of lesbian characters in movies, marking a significant departure from the 1990s. During the 1990s, these storylines were primarily found in independent or avant-garde films, frequently confined to clichéd portrayals.

Presently, popular films and shows such as "Carol," "Blue Is the Warmest Color," and "Orange is the New Black" highlight multifaceted and varied lesbian characters who play essential roles in their storylines, depicting their everyday struggles, dates and hookups, as well as regular social interactions.

Furthermore, LGBTQ+ filmmakers and actors play a significant role in the narrative, resulting in a heightened sense of genuineness in the portrayals. But, if you go on a dating site designed for movie buffs seeking a lesbian hookup near me, you will find them talking about movies from the 90s and how they transformed everything for the community.

Interesting facts from the 90s

Let's talk about some interesting facts about movies from the 90s that paved the way for modern-day lesbian representation in the mainstream media.

"Bound" (1996): A Game-Changer

"Bound" (1996), a neo-noir crime thriller directed by the Wachowskis, is a standout film that showcases their remarkable talent during the 90s. The movie was revolutionary not just for its gripping storyline and artistic visuals but also for its courageous portrayal of a lesbian hookup turning into a love story.

In the movie, Corky and Violet are portrayed by Gina Gershon and Jennifer Tilly, and their unique romantic connection challenges societal norms and expectations. In contrast to numerous works of its time, "Bound" presented lesbian characters as intricate and multifaceted individuals rather than mere symbols or subjects of fetishistic intrigue.

The storyline seamlessly integrated the characters' romance, presenting a genuine depiction of lesbian relationships without resorting to sensationalism, which resonated with audiences and proved a game-changer in every sense of the word.

The Rise of Indie Gems

The 90s era proved especially favorable for indie movies exploring LGBTQ+ storylines. Within the realm of indie treasures, "Go Fish" (1994), helmed by the visionary Rose Troche, stood out as a groundbreaking work of art.

The distinctiveness of it resided in the aspect that it encompassed not only lesbians; it was also brought into existence by them. The movie showcased a remarkable display of talent as it was both written and performed by a cast of lesbian actors, offering a genuine representation of lesbian relationships that was truly refreshing.

The lesbian experience was portrayed in a raw and nuanced manner, making this movie truly groundbreaking. It avoided conforming to mainstream stereotypes and depicted a broader, inclusive portrayal of lesbian existence, transcending the usual clichés.

The emergence of movies such as "Go Fish" marked the beginning of a fresh era in independent film, where a willingness to delve deeper into intricate LGBTQ+ subjects became evident. During this era of progress, there was a notable leap in LGBTQ+ portrayal, establishing the foundation for the multitude of varied storylines witnessed in contemporary film.

Shattering Stereotypes with "But I'm a Cheerleader" (1999)

"But I am a Cheerleader" (1999), helmed by Jamie Babbit, left a lasting impression by offering a satirical perspective on the contentious topic of conversion therapy.

In the movie, there was an unexpected main character named Megan, portrayed by Natasha Lyonne, who happened to be a cheerleader. Megan's life takes a dramatic turn when her parents suspect her of being a lesbian and decide to send her to a conversion therapy camp nearby.

In this story, she encounters Graham, portrayed by Clea DuVall, and a beautiful lesbian love story begins to unravel.

The movie effectively confronts preconceived notions linked to lesbianism, showcasing characters who break away from the typical clichés frequently portrayed in the media. Significantly, it tackles important matters of individuality and inclusion with a touch of comedy and sincerity, showcasing that a person's sexual preference does not adhere to conventional societal standards or anticipations.

Mainstream Success with "The Birdcage" (1996)

"The Birdcage" (1996), directed by the talented Mike Nichols, showcased the immense commercial viability of LGBTQ+ stories.

In a departure from a series of independent portrayals of the LGBTQ+ community, this movie offered a popular comedic perspective on their experiences. Fascinatingly, the movie features a same-sex couple, played by the skilled actresses Christine Baranski and Dianne Wiest. The pair's lively and laughter-filled interactions brought a new dimension to the film, establishing it as a cherished comedic gem.

"The Birdcage" soared to popularity, proving viewers were enthusiastic and open to embracing expertly crafted LGBTQ+ storylines across various genres, including comedy. It shattered the misconception that these narratives were limited or lacked commercial appeal.

Moreover, the representation of the lesbian duo was devoid of the exhausted clichés frequently linked to LGBTQ+ individuals, delivering a genuine and enthralling depiction. The movie's triumph marked a noteworthy achievement in the realm of LGBTQ+ portrayal in the mainstream media.

Conclusion

Overall, it is evident that the movies in the 90s introduced a variety of topics and showcased lesbian characters, even though it was still a relatively early stage for such representation. However, the depiction of these characters was frequently confined to alternative or experimental movies and sometimes fell victim to overused portrayals. In the present day, we can see a significant shift towards a more comprehensive and intricate portrayal of lesbian characters, but it all started in the 90s. But, it is crucial to recognize, though, that even with these advancements, there is still a significant amount of work that needs to be done in order to establish comprehensive and varied portrayals of LGBTQ+ characters in movies.

The Dark Knight

We’re sure you’ve already seen this iconic film, but it’s always good to re-watch classics! This film is part of the ‘The Dark Knight’ trilogy and is arguably the most popular one out of the three.

With solid cast performances, there is one, however, that completely steals the show! We are, of course, talking about the infamous Joker. This vessel of absolute chaos is determined to test how far Batman is willing to go to save Gotham from destruction and has the vigilante on his toes during the whole film.

This movie is one of Nolan’s best works due to the fact that at the movie’s core, The Dark Knight is a crime thriller first and a superhero movie second, making it one of the most unique and compelling films ever! Heath Ledger’s take on the Joker (although his casting was controversial at first) cemented the movie as one of the greatest hits of cinema!

You can watch this film or the entire trilogy at Max via Spectrum.

Dunkirk

Oppenheimer is not Nolan’s first film that revolves around the events of World War 2.

Dunkirk premiered in 2017 and tells the story of a critical turning point during the war when 400,000 Allied Forces were stranded on the French Beach and waiting to be rescued. The movie is tense from the very beginning and wastes no time creating the high stakes.

One of the most unique things about this movie is how little it relies on dialogue, and instead chooses to convey most things via expressions and body language. The sounds of the bombs and gunshots shake audiences to their core, the constant ticking of a watch raises anxiety, and the overall sound design is nothing short of phenomenal!

Dunkirk is a film about survival, about the urgency to get home, and even though we don’t know a lot about the characters’ personal stories, it doesn’t matter. We want these characters to be safe since it almost feels like we’re in the story with them – that’s how immersive this film is!

Inception

It feels only appropriate that we end this suggestion list with one of Nolan’s most popular films.

This sci-fi action epic tells the story of a thief who has the rare ability to enter people's dreams and steal secrets right from their subconscious! His unique but dangerous skill has turned him into a target, but there does lie a personal stake at the heart of this film.

The world that Nolan created for this film is quite complex and Inception is such a masterpiece that most film critics love going back to it from time to time, to analyze it further. The characters are all compelling and well-crafted to fit the grand scheme of the movie and it would be an oversight (on our part) if we didn’t mention how visually stunning the movie is!

The lack or minimal use of CGI in Nolan’s films isn’t a secret, as he prefers more practical shots which ultimately leads to some very interesting and creative shots in all his films. We’re sure that with Inception, you’ll be left speechless!

In Conclusion

Nolan once stated, “It’s encumbered on us, as filmmakers, to try and push whatever boundaries we can, and not be beholden to a theoretical rule set.

It is because of his dedication to his craft that he’s one of the most respected and influential directors in Hollywood and audiences can’t get enough of his films, with Oppenheimer being his biggest masterpiece yet!

The film honors those who display extraordinary courage, even in the face of adversity.

Full Metal Jacket

Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket offers a powerful exploration of the Vietnam War. The film follows a group of young Marine recruits as they endure the brutalities of basic training and later confront the realities of combat. By fearlessly depicting the mental and physical obstacles encountered by soldiers, this film deeply explores the dehumanizing impact of warfare while paying tribute to the sacrifices of the US military.

The Hurt Locker

Under the direction of Kathryn Bigelow, The Hurt Locker presents a captivating portrayal of an explosive ordinance disposal team's experiences amidst the Iraq War. The movie centers on Staff Sergeant William James as he confronts the dangerous duty of defusing bombs. By immersing viewers in its authentic portrayal of warfare, the film explores the emotional impact of war and the remarkable bravery displayed by soldiers who safeguard others at great risk.

The Bottom Line

These Memorial Day movies offer compelling portrayals of the US military and its members, showcasing their bravery, sacrifice, and the moral dilemmas they encounter. From the gripping story of a Navy SEAL in American Sniper to the extraordinary courage of a conscientious objector in Hacksaw Ridge, these films pay tribute to the dedication and humanity of those who serve. Whether set in modern conflicts or past wars, these movies will leave you inspired and remind you of the remarkable strength of the human spirit.

Here are some of the best casino movies to pick up if you like the old school classic variant.]]>

It is fortunate that these stories did not remain confined to Las Vegas, as this city has produced some of the most exceptional and undervalued movies ever made. Although gambling mainly involves card games like poker, it can also include sports betting, lotteries, and similar activities.

Although most of these movies take place in Las Vegas, this is not a requirement for inclusion on the list. Some are set in casinos abroad, while others are set in non-gambling environments. Some are even set in underground locations or completely different settings. If you want to experience heated gambling action just like these movies, checking out the best Ontario online casinos might prove beneficial.

In this article, Gurugamer is going to showcase the top 10 casino movies that defined the genre.

Thehustler1961 78742

1. Casino (1995)

The movie Casino (1995) is an extensive tale about gambling, comparable to an epic western directed by renowned filmmakers such as Sergio Leone or Howard Hawks. Robert De Niro portrays the chief of the titular establishment, akin to a gunslinger.

Martin Scorsese and Robert de Niro has given us many unforgettable movies and casino is one of them. It has everything: a good script, an ensemble cast like Joe Pesci, Sharon Stone, James Woods, Kevin Pollard, Frank Vincent and many more. This film cinematography is very brilliant. I mean everything on the movie is epic. In Goodfellas- another movie of Scorsese Joe Pesci's character kills Frank Vincent's Character and in this movie Frank's character kills Joe's character. I loved that payback!

2. The Hustler (1961)

Like The Sting, The Hustler (1961) is a movie on the list that transcends the gambling genre in terms of critical acclaim. Directed by Robert Rossen and featuring Paul Newman as "Fast Eddie" Felson, this film inspired Martin Scorsese and his team to create The Color of Money. Although The Color of Money was also well-received, The Hustler has become a classic in its own right.

As Fast Eddie seeks to challenge his pool hustling skills against the professional player "Minnesota Flats," the performances by Newman and George C. Scott elevate the movie to a level of greatness. It has earned such acclaim for a reason.

3. Hard Eight (1996)

A restrained narrative about how people sort of tumble into each other’s lives, changing its direction irreversibly: a favorite theme of Anderson’s. Set against the baroque world of high stakes gambling cities (Vegas, Reno, and Atlantic City), the small cast of core characters take a chance on each other instead. Their unclear motivations feel true to life, underlining the realistic risk of making human connections in a dog-eat-dog world. Well shot, moody in an understated way, and aesthetically immersive—Hard Eight announces Anderson’s style, quietly asserting his unique talent at the dawn of his career.

The plot of the movie follows Hall's character, Sydney, as he mentors John, played by Reilly, on the ins and outs of professional gambling in Las Vegas. Along the way, John falls in love with Clementine, a waitress portrayed by Paltrow. The storyline develops into a kind of crime thriller as the trio finds themselves in a difficult situation that could result in severe legal consequences for all of them.

4. Croupier (1998)

One noteworthy aspect of this production is how it uses interior monologues to emulate the neo-noir or detective style of film that screenwriter Paul Mayersburg and director Mike Hodges drew inspiration from. However, Croupier (1998) also offers valuable insights into the inner workings of casinos, with technical jargon at every turn within the British gambling establishment where the film is set.

The result of its stylish presentation and intelligent script is a performance by English actor Clive Owen that defines his career and delves deeply into the intricate nature of the human condition. The captivating storyline becomes a sort of character study, and Jack Manfred's role should, therefore, be considered the most compelling protagonist ever featured in a gambling movie. And that's just a glimpse of what makes Croupier such an excellent film.

5. The Cincinnati Kid (1965)

Many avid movie fans consider this film, directed by Norman Jewison, to be the greatest gambling movie ever made. However, compared to other movies on this list, its pacing may not have aged as well. Nevertheless, Jewison still did a commendable job with The Cincinnati Kid (1965), landing it in the number five spot. Steve McQueen plays the main character, Eric "The Kid" Stoner, an aspiring poker player in New Orleans during the Great Depression. The story follows his journey as he challenges veteran card player Lancey "The Man" Howard, portrayed by Edward G. Robinson. The script is filled with humor until the last card is dealt, and each performer does an excellent job of portraying their respective poker player roles. It's no surprise that this movie is still highly regarded.

6. The Gambler (1974)

James Caan delivers a standout performance in The Gambler (1974) as Axel Freed, a character who depicts gambling addiction in a way that is unmatched by any other film. Whether he is betting on a poker game in Las Vegas, a football championship with his friends, or a random basketball game he stumbled upon in the park, gambling is his one true obsession. Despite being a writer and an English teacher, his passion for gambling consumes him in this crime drama, and Caan's portrayal of Axel was highly acclaimed. He even received a Golden Globe nomination for his performance, and many would agree that it is one of his finest roles and a classic gambling movie.

7. The Sting (1973)

Paul Newman & Robert Redford reunite for this Academy Award winning film directed by George Roy Hill about two con men who team up to avenge the death of a mutual friend by "stinging" a mob boss(played by Robert Shaw). Film details their intricate plan to do so, which involves an excellent cast including Charles Durning, Ray Walston, & Eileen Brennan, among others. The story climaxes in an elaborate swindle that may well fool the audience. Fine use of vintage 1930's jazz music appropriate for the period.

A delicious wheeze from start to finish. Certainly a film that leaves you thinking that you'd like to have been in Henry's gang and played a part in separating Lonnegan from his dough. The editing is pin sharp and beautifully cast with a superb musical track to keep you company. The framing, the photography, the pace all dovetail exquisitely and if you feel left outside of the game plan in your first viewing, never fear, the second time of watching, you'll enjoy it just as much but it will mean more.

8. House of Games (1987)

In this David Mamet-directed heist movie, Lindsay Crouse's character Dr. Margaret Ford meets Joe Mantegna's character Mike Mancuso, a thief. One of her patients seeks the assistance of Dr. Ford, a psychiatrist with expertise in obsessive-compulsive disorder, for assistance with his obligation to Mancuso. They meet at a pool hall called House of Games, where Dr. Ford catches Mancuso trying to scam her. Despite this, they develop a close relationship and experience the pitfalls of gambling. It's a captivating story that still holds up today.

9. The Color of Money (1986)

Paul Newman plays "Fast Eddie" Felson, a part he first played in Robert Rossen's The Hustler from 1961, in this sports drama directed by Martin Scorsese. The Color of Money (1986) wasn't as well received by critics despite having more commercial success than its predecessor. The success of the film was greatly influenced by its cast, which included Newman, Tom Cruise, John Turturro, and Forest Whitaker. The premise of the movie was intriguing, with Newman's character now retired but taking a young gambler (Tom Cruise's character, Vincent Lauria) under his wing. Overall, it was a thoroughly enjoyable movie that fully realized its main characters.

10. California Split (1974)

Robert Altman's gambling epic, California Split (1974), follows the story of two main characters, Bill Denny and Charlie Waters, played by George Segal and Elliot Gould. The two form an unlikely bond after a fellow gambler attacks them for winning his money. As they begin gambling together, their friendship deepens, and the movie delves into the dangers of gambling addiction. Although it may not have aged as gracefully as some of the older gambling movies, California Split remains a classic of the genre, thanks to its strong narrative and palpable atmosphere.

Gambling movies are exciting because they involve taking risks, which is not the case with average people making a living through cautious and safe methods. The thrill of seeing someone risking everything for a big score is what makes gambling movies successful. Movie characters who gamble are like a group of criminals who plan a major heist before disappearing. The situation can become tense and unpredictable quickly. Nowadays, the thrill in these movies can actually be replicated fairly easily by some of the top paying online casino NZ.

While the gamblers portrayed in films and TV shows are often fictional, true stories can be even more fascinating than fiction. Some of the best movies have been based on real events. Let's explore some of them.

Casino 3

Casino (1995)

The 1995 dramatic thriller Casino, directed by Martin Scorsese, draws heavily from the lives of Frank 'Lefty' Rosenthal, a Vegas casino boss, and Chicago mobster Anthony Spilotro. Scorsese blends fact and fiction, depicting Rosenthal's relationship with the criminal underworld through his friend Spilotro. The two men operated four illegal and unlicensed casinos in the 1970s and experienced a tumultuous ride involving love, murder, revenge, marriage, and adultery. The film also depicts the downfall of the mob's control over the lucrative casino industry. Nowadays, it's easier for bettors to register at non-Gamstop casinos due to simpler license verification and review finding processes. Despite this, the movie's award-winning performances by Sharon Stone, Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, and James Woods will still keep viewers on the edge of their seats.

High Roller: The Stu Ungar Story (2003)

Stu Ungar is a name familiar to passionate poker players due to his impressive accomplishments. One of the greatest poker and gin rummy players in history, he owns the record for most World Series of Poker Main Event victories with three. Even without his chaotic lifestyle, which included vices like gambling, drink, drugs, and parties, his life story would make for an interesting film or documentary. Despite making numerous mistakes and dying at a young age, the legacy of Kid Poker is likely to endure. A.W Vidmer's film, High Roller: The Stu Ungar Story, is not an action-packed thriller, but Michael Imperioli delivers a strong performance, portraying Ungar's highs and lows. The movie is both entertaining and devastating.

21 (2008)

The 2008 film is based on a non-fiction book by Ben Mezrich called Bringing Down the House: The Inside Story of Six MIT Students Who Took Vegas for Millions. The movie follows a group of MIT students led by a professor as they use blackjack card counting techniques to beat Las Vegas casinos. While the film adds some fictional elements to make it more dramatic and appealing to audiences, it remains faithful enough to the real-life events to be included in a list of true stories. The plot takes several unexpected turns when the casinos fight back against the students. The movie boasts a talented cast, including Kate Bosworth, Kevin Spacey, and Jim Sturgess.

Broke (2016)

Broke is a movie that revolves around sports betting and explores the match-fixing scandals that took place in Australia in the early 2000s. The film also addresses various challenges that afflict the gambling industry, such as addiction and the journey towards recovery. The protagonist of the movie is BK, a former rugby player who has turned to match-fixing and is facing a difficult time. He receives assistance from Cec, a former fan, and with her help, he starts working his way back to success and redemption.

Molly’s Game (2017)

Molly's Game is a recent gambling film that is based on a true story. It depicts the life of Molly Bloom, a 26-year-old former Olympic hopeful who suffers a sudden downturn in her life after a skiing accident. She starts organizing some of LA's biggest underground poker games until she gets into trouble and moves to New York. The hotel suite games even attract some high-profile celebrities whose identities are kept a secret. Idris Elba, Kevin Costner, and Jessica Chastain all give outstanding performances in the movie.

The story itself is already pretty good but the Russian mafia and FBI make it even better. This makes it difficult for spectators to take their eyes off the screen until the very end.

Bugsy (1991)

Barry Levinson directed Bugsy (1991), a critically acclaimed gangster film starring Warren Beatty in the lead role. Levinson was nominated for an Oscar for Best Director, one of the ten nominations the film received. The movie is set in the 1920s and centers around the true story of Bugsy Siegel, a powerful Jewish mobster who played a significant role in creating the Las Vegas Strip. Bugsy is also considered a great gambling movie that is definitely worth watching.

Despite losing the award to Jonathan Demme for Silence of the Lambs (1991), Bugsy won two Oscars for Best Art Direction and Best Costume Design.

<![CDATA[Top 7 Hollywood Movies That Programmers Can Identify with Right Away]]> https://gurugamer.com/movies/top-7-hollywood-movies-that-programmers-can-identify-with-right-away-21905 Tue, 21 Mar 2023 09:19:00 +0000 https://gurugamer.com/movies/top-7-hollywood-movies-that-programmers-can-identify-with-right-away-21905
Movies need to be about your love, in this case, computer science and programming, to be even vaguely intriguing.]]>

It’s vital to acknowledge right away that Hollywood hasn’t ever done a good job at presenting programming movies. There are many things that the film industry might learn from genuine programmers, from implausible hack sequences to the absurd portrayal of the typical coder.

That doesn’t, however, imply that every Hollywood film presents programming and programmers inaccurately. Programmers may almost immediately relate to some of them since they are so unsettlingly realistic.

If you’re a programmer seeking to catch a Hollywood film, you’d prefer to see something relevant to your line of work. Here are some of the top programming movies you need to see which we reveal to you because… well, we’re also programmers and movie aficionados.

Matrix Title Small

The Imitation Game

You should be familiar with Alan Turing if you have even the slightest interest in the development of computers. The Turing test, formerly known as the imitation game, took Alan Turing’s name as its inspiration. The title of the film refers to a test to see whether or not a machine is just as intelligent as a human.

The Imitation Game is a biographical account of Alan Turing that’s made interesting by a strong narrative. It chronicles the cryptanalyst’s and his team’s efforts to decrypt German communications during World War II. The Imitation Game is undoubtedly among the most enjoyable historical suspense films to watch for programming ideas, making it one of the top programming movies.

The Social Network

A movie called The Social Network was created to show how Facebook dealt with lawsuits in its early years as a social media platform. It’s difficult to critique the movie’s coding scenes, despite the fact that there has been a lot of criticism and skepticism regarding the truth of the film’s contents.

Don’t get us wrong, there are moments when programmers act really absurdly, but you don't anticipate seeing it very frequently. You can see why it’s a realistic movie by contrasting it to your typical Hollywood hacking film, where the IT nerd quickly breaks a bank’s security measures.

2010 saw the release of The Social Network, to middling reactions from the critics. The fact that Mark Zuckerberg didn’t particularly enjoy the film doesn’t diminish its attractiveness, though. The Social Network is a convincing choice if you’re a software engineer planning to launch a firm and are looking for the greatest programming movies to watch.

WarGames

In the 1982 technology thriller WarGames, a teenage hacker nonchalantly gains access to a US military computer intended to carry out nuclear assaults against the Soviet Union. This isn’t your normal programming movie. The main plot, however, doesn’t have as much in common with programming as David Lightman’s everyday life does.

What could be cooler than accessing and altering your grades and your friend’s grades using your home computer? Even more astounding is the fact that this film was aired in 1982, a time when almost no American school used computers to compile and store grades.

To go back to the movie’s primary plot, David runs the Global Thermonuclear War game as the Soviet Union and launches nuclear attacks on American cities. As a result of this development, David was detained and questioned by McKittrick, who assumed he was affiliated with the Soviet Union.

Finally, Falken, the original developer of the W.O.P.R program, was located by David Lightman when he managed to escape from custody. David eventually persuaded Falken to assist in preventing the nuclear apocalypse by repeatedly making the computer play tic tac toe against itself. It’s among the best programming movies available thanks to the technical aspects, and every programmer should watch it.

The Matrix

The Matrix is still deserving of being listed among the top programming films to catch in 2023, despite the fact that we doubt there’s a programmer alive who hasn’t seen it. The matrix’s premise seemed insanely plausible to many people when it was first published in 1999, to the extent that many of them speculated that the world could be the product of simulation.

The Matrix has encouraged many people to think about pursuing programming as a profession because of how it depicts cyber-anonymity and sophisticated hacking. What better way to get ideas for a tech product than to see a movie that shows you’re just living in a simulation if you’re hunting for inspiration to make one?

Takedown

It’s difficult for followers of the cybersecurity sector of the industry to not be familiar with Kevin Mitnick. American hacker Kevin was found guilty and sentenced to 50 years in jail following his high-profile capture in 1995 for a number of computer-related offenses.

Takedown, which was published in Finland in 2000, only concentrates on the hunt for and final capture of the cybersecurity specialist. Due to numerous disputes regarding the film's status, it took until 2004 for this movie to be released in US theaters. Considering that the movie actually is one of Kevin Mitnick’s least contentious endeavors, this isn’t even unexpected.

Today, Kevin Mitnick is the CEO of the Mitnick Security Consulting company. He’s 58 years old and focuses mostly on creating intrusion prevention systems while raising awareness of the value of cybersecurity and ways that people and businesses may protect themselves.

All of those are admirable things to accomplish, but it’s unlikely that anyone will pay them much attention. His most notable legacy will likely be as the unfavorable inspiration source for one of the greatest programming films ever made.

We Are Legion

You might think about watching this documentary movie if you’re interested in learning more about how the online hacktivist collective Anonymous operates. An hour and a half long, it is a staged story by Anonymous that was directed and written by Brian Knappenberger.

The movie explains some of the group’s motivations, which include copyright violations, online censorship, and police violence. That comes after a few hacktivism demonstrations in which the organization has taken part, both locally and online.

The movie’s reception wasn’t particularly positive, but it also wasn’t extremely groundbreaking. It’s a documentary that’s worth your time, according to Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes, where it has a 66% rating and a 73% approval rating.

Code Rush

Code Rush, which serves as more of a documentary than a movie and follows the lives of Netscape developers as they race to prepare the source code of Mozilla for publication, is similar to We Are Legion in that it follows their daily lives. Many Netscape staffers, including 16-year-old volunteer Stuart Parmenter, were shown in the documentary.

The documentary, which is just under an hour in length and is freely accessible on YouTube, is available. Many insightful quotations are included for programmers, some of which will subsequently influence how you view programming and development.

You’ll also be able to appreciate the lengths some people will go to in order to achieve their objectives. As you watch others give up valuable family time for a project, Project Code Rush not only motivates you to build things with your programming skills but also makes you realize that you might not be as committed as you should be.

Conclusion

Even while watching too many movies is perhaps a reasonable way for programmers to pass the time, it’s additionally one of the nicest pastime activities apart from taking a shot on WMS online casinos. Movies need to be about your love, in this case, computer science and programming, to be even vaguely intriguing.

This article examines a few of the top programming movies to see in 2023 and the reasons for their inclusion on the list. This list is absolutely comprehensive and includes anything from movies that track a real-life hacker to ones that tell the inside story of how Facebook was created.
